Case Calendar is an open-source Python CLI for monitoring federal court dockets from CourtListener and RECAP. It extracts hearings and filing deadlines, then creates subscribable per-case ICS feeds. The project is aimed at journalists, researchers, and other users tracking public federal cases. Technical users who want control over deployment and calendar feeds will find its scope a closer fit than law firms seeking a complete practice-management calendar.

Its strongest area is docket-to-calendar workflow. Case Calendar supports multi-docket case consolidation, automated deadline calculation, court-local timezone preservation, popup and email reminders, and a static public index page with subscribe buttons. Google Calendar and Microsoft 365/Outlook push use OAuth, while a real-time CourtListener webhook receiver can accept docket updates. Optional AI-generated case summaries add a review layer, although use of language-model services can create separate API costs. The supported environments are Linux, Windows through WSL2, and macOS, with self-hosting as part of the deployment model.

Case Calendar is open source rather than a tiered commercial service, so there are no paid plan differences to compare. Its tradeoff is operational: users must manage the self-hosted application and any connected services, and synchronization is one-way. The project documentation positions it as a supplement to docket watching rather than a replacement for calendaring software used by practicing attorneys. Pick it for open-source federal docket feeds, calendar subscriptions, and technical control; choose a dedicated legal calendaring product when attorney-focused calendaring workflows are the primary requirement.

Case Calendar pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Per-case ICS feeds preserve court-local timezones
    • Pushes events to Google Calendar and Microsoft 365/Outlook
    • Combines multiple dockets with webhook and reminder support
  • Where it doesn't
    • Self-hosted setup requires technical administration
    • Calendar synchronization is one-way
    • Designed as a docket-watching supplement, not attorney calendaring software
