Calque review
A focused open-source CLI for pixel-accurate plain HTML reconstruction.

Calque is an open-source, self-hosted command-line tool for turning PNG or JPEG website screenshots into self-contained HTML and CSS. It is aimed at developers and teams reconstructing a page from a visual reference, especially when the target is plain HTML with CSS custom properties. It can also produce a JSON measurement specification for further implementation and ships as a Claude skill, giving the workflow both command-line and skill-based entry points.
Its strongest differentiator is the depth of its screenshot analysis. Calque measures colors, typography, spacing, radii, gutters, and alignment; detects sections, columns, cards, buttons, and reading order; and crops photographic regions for asset references. It also reconstructs vertical gradients and provides rendered, pixel-by-pixel checks against the source screenshot. The documented workflow includes build, extract, render, and check commands, so the product covers both measurement and visual verification rather than stopping at an initial markup output.
Calque is deliberately narrow in output scope. The published format is self-contained HTML and CSS with custom properties, with no framework-specific output preference. That makes it a clear fit for plain HTML reconstruction, but a less direct choice for teams that need a React, Vue, or other framework implementation. It is also presented as a self-hosted open-source CLI rather than a hosted pricing model, so teams should be comfortable managing that workflow. Choose Calque when screenshot measurement and pixel-level checking matter more than framework breadth; choose an alternative when framework-native output is a primary requirement.
