Our verdict on Cal Date Widget
Cal Date Widget is an Android app for people who want date and calendar information directly on a home screen. Its three widgets cover a self-resizing date display, today's calendar events, and a seven-day forward-looking calendar view. The date widget supports preset formats and custom SimpleDateFormat patterns, while calendar widgets use on-device calendar data. This is a focused option for solo users who want glanceable calendar context and control over widget appearance, rather than a broad collection of home-screen tools.
Customization goes beyond choosing a date format: text, background, and shadow colors can be set with RGB values, and background opacity is adjustable. The date text scales automatically, and multi-level undo supports configuration changes. Tapping a widget opens the calendar app or configuration settings. The daily agenda advances to tomorrow after the day's events end, while the weekly widget keeps a seven-day view ahead. Together, these details make the app relevant for users who want calendar visibility without opening an app, though its widget scope stays centered on dates and events.
The app is free and available through Google Play. According to its description, it works offline without internet permission, keeping calendar data on the device. Android is its only listed platform, and it does not provide weather, music controls, task or note widgets, or shortcut controls. The project source is publicly viewable on GitHub, but its license is described as source-available with restrictions rather than an open-source license. Choose Cal Date Widget for configurable date and calendar widgets with an offline approach; look elsewhere if you need other widget categories or a broader platform choice.
