Braintree review
A broad payment platform for businesses that need PayPal and marketplace payments.

Braintree is PayPal’s payment processing platform for businesses accepting cards, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH Direct Debit, and local payment methods. It supports web, iOS, Android, and API integrations, making it suitable for online businesses, mobile apps, subscription services, and marketplaces. Payment methods also include bank transfers, vouchers, and buy now, pay later methods. Multiple currencies are supported subject to merchant account setup, geographic availability, and approval requirements.
Braintree uses a contact-sales pricing model, so buyers should expect commercial terms to be discussed directly rather than selected from published plan tiers. The platform’s ecosystem fit is a central strength: PayPal payments can be added through a single integration, while client and server SDKs, hosted Drop-in UI, Hosted Fields, and API support give teams several implementation paths. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, ACH Direct Debit, and local methods extend payment coverage beyond card processing.
For recurring revenue, Braintree includes recurring billing and subscriptions, tokenization, vaulted payment methods, fraud tools, reporting, and webhooks. Marketplace operators can use transaction splitting and provider payouts, although marketplace payments require approval and are limited to US-domiciled master merchants and sub-merchants. Choose Braintree when PayPal access, varied payment methods, subscriptions, or marketplace flows are important. Businesses seeking transparent self-serve pricing or marketplace support outside those eligibility limits should consider another platform.
