Braintree Fraud Protection is PayPal’s fraud-management suite for merchants processing payments through Braintree. It evaluates online card transactions in real time using machine-learning risk scoring, device and transaction data, adaptive rules, and configurable filters. The product is aimed at Braintree merchants that need screening controls beyond basic transaction monitoring, including teams that want to automate decisions while retaining a manual investigation path.
The published plans show two tiers. Fraud Protection Lite costs $0.05 per inquiry for US Braintree accounts and includes machine-learning transaction risk scores, blocklists, transaction details and insights, historical transaction simulations, and analytical and integration-health dashboards. Fraud Protection Advanced adds customizable risk rules, allowlists, blocklists, review lists, manual review investigation workflows, custom fields, detailed risk information, and webhooks. Lite availability is regionally restricted, with documentation specifying US access, while pricing may vary by business size, risk profile, and region.
Its strongest fit is the Braintree ecosystem: the tools are integrated through Braintree’s client-side SDKs, server-side APIs, and Control Panel, with webhooks for reviewed transactions. That gives merchants a connected path from risk decisions to investigation and reporting. Choose Braintree Fraud Protection if your payments run through Braintree and you need configurable screening, device-data analysis, simulation, and review workflows. Merchants outside supported regional availability, operating beyond Braintree, or requiring a chargeback guarantee should consider a different fraud-detection approach.
