Our verdict on Braincup

Braincup is an open-source collection of short brain-training games for people who want self-directed practice on mobile or desktop. Its exercises span math, memory, focus, logic and perception, with 41 scored mini-games and seven extra modes. Examples include calculation puzzles, visual memory, Sudoku, chess and an IQ-style matrix puzzle. It is a single-player app, so it suits solo sessions rather than shared or coach-led training.

Offline access is a defining strength: play does not require an account or backend, and high scores are stored locally on the device. That keeps the experience straightforward for players who want to open a game without signing in, and the supported platforms include Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux. The tradeoff is that local storage does not provide cross-device progress syncing. Achievements and medals add exercise-level recognition, but Braincup does not offer AI features or verified personalized training, so it is less suited to people seeking adaptive plans or guided progress.

Access depends on distribution channel. F-Droid provides the app at no charge, while Google Play lists a one-time paid download; its listed non-promotion price is $0.99, and pricing can vary by region or channel. This makes Braincup worth considering for budget-conscious players who can use the free distribution option, or for those comfortable with a small one-time purchase on Google Play. Choose another app if personalized recommendations, account-based syncing, or guided training are central to your needs.
