Our verdict on Bookmint
Bookmint is a browser-based book layout tool for independent authors who need to prepare both print books and ebooks. It accepts Word, Markdown, and plain-text manuscripts, then combines templates with controls for typography, margins, trim size, bleed, and crop marks. Authors can also design title pages and covers, arrange front matter and back matter, add ISBN details, and preview print and reflowable ebook versions.
The free edition supports book design and previewing, but its PDF and ebook exports are watermarked. The paid Bookmint edition costs £29.99 as a one-time purchase and removes the export watermark while adding print PDF export, store-ready EPUB export, and access to all templates and design tools. Its layout controls extend to tables of contents, footnotes, endnotes, images, embedded fonts, and accessibility metadata, giving authors more control than a basic manuscript-to-file converter. The official homepage also states that manuscripts are processed locally in the browser rather than uploaded to a server.
Bookmint fits authors preparing files for several major publishing routes, with integrations for Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Apple Books, Kobo, and Draft2Digital. That combination makes it suitable for projects requiring coordinated print and ebook output, especially when trim, bleed, cover layout, and book structure need attention. Authors who want a free workflow without export watermarks should choose another option, as the free edition retains them. It is also less suited to buyers specifically seeking a desktop application, since Bookmint is delivered through the web.
