Our verdict on Blick
Blick is a native non-linear video editor for Windows and macOS, developed by Dihedron Software GmbH. It is aimed at individual editors, studios, and educational institutions that want a desktop workflow centered on timeline editing. The feature set includes keyframe animation, transform, blur, brightness and contrast, and hue/saturation effects, alongside text clips and timer text clips. A free test version supports editing, saving, and exporting, while opening existing project files requires a perpetual license. The product is available in public beta.
Pricing is organized around one-time licenses rather than subscriptions. The Basic plan costs €89 and includes a one-person license, a perpetual license, two years of updates, and community Discord access. Supporter costs €249 and adds early access to insider and nightly builds, plus a VIP Discord role and private channel. Per Seat costs €499 per seat and adds studio licensing, priority support, and reassignment of seats. Student costs €35.60 one time, with the same features as Basic for students and educators. Contact-us and Institution options cover developer contact, roadmap input, volume licensing, and flexible terms for schools and universities. Pricing is shown in EUR including VAT, and purchases are final.
For technical editors, Blick’s strongest case is its focused desktop toolset: proxy generation and switching, autosave, portable project files, media and stream inspection, audio waveform and spectral visualization, and non-blocking rendering with pause and rewind controls. H.264, AV1, and ProRes rendering support broadens its export usefulness. The trade-off is scope: the published product positioning does not include 4K, web or mobile apps, team collaboration, or integration coverage. Editors who want a contained Windows or macOS workflow and can work within a public beta may find the free version or Basic plan appropriate. Teams requiring collaboration, broader platform access, or those capabilities should choose another editor.
