Our verdict on Black Octopus Sound
Black Octopus Sound is an online store and membership community for music producers. Its catalog centers on royalty-free sample packs, drum hits, loops, bass sounds, effects, vocals, MIDI files and Serum presets, alongside software and educational resources. The collection targets electronic-music production across dubstep, house, trap, drum and bass, techno and EDM. A free 1 GB collection gives producers a way to explore samples and presets before choosing paid content or membership.
Pricing is structured around three BOS Gold options. BOS Gold Monthly costs $18 per month and includes courses and tutorials, webinars and live broadcasts, an exclusive monthly sample pack, and a 25% discount on sample packs and presets. BOS Gold Yearly costs $88 per year and adds one flagship sample pack of choice to the same education, broadcasts, monthly pack and discount benefits. BOS Gold One-Time Payment also includes one flagship sample pack of choice, courses, tutorials, webinars, live broadcasts, the monthly sample pack and the 25% discount; its price varies with the selected flagship product. The annual plan suits producers who expect ongoing access, while monthly billing offers a shorter commitment.
The strongest fit is for producers who want a mix of downloadable sound material and structured learning rather than a sample catalog alone. Content spans one-shots, loops, vocals, MIDI, effects and presets, giving electronic producers several starting points for composition and sound design. Delivery is by email, with the platform listed as web-based, so the service is centered on online access and downloads rather than a broader platform ecosystem. Producers seeking a focused sample-and-education membership should consider Black Octopus Sound; those who only need occasional individual packs may prefer to buy them separately instead of paying for Gold.
