Bitmap Font Editor is a desktop application for creating and editing monochrome bitmap fonts. It suits developers and designers working on retro computers, embedded systems, and other projects that need compact bitmap glyphs, with particular relevance to SAM Coupe targets. The editor supports both fixed- and variable-width fonts, lets users assign codepoints and Unicode mappings, and provides per-glyph advance widths. Its Windows, macOS, and Linux availability also makes it practical for projects spanning those desktop platforms.
Its standout feature is the focused bitmap workflow. Glyphs are drawn on grids up to 32×32 pixels, with operations for undo and redo, copy and paste, clearing, inversion, flipping, and shifting. Live text previews can be viewed at multiple zoom levels, while raw bitmap font files can be imported with configurable geometry and byte layout. Editable projects are saved as lossless .fnt.json files, and exports include 1bpp bitmap data plus separate widths and mapping files.
