Bitdefender TrafficLight (now Bitdefender Web Sage) review
A free Chrome and Edge extension for real-time web protection, not email security.

Bitdefender Web Sage, formerly TrafficLight, is a browser security extension for people who want protection while browsing in Chrome or Edge. Its free Standard version checks pages in real time against Bitdefender threat intelligence, blocks dangerous sites before they load and displays safety ratings beside search results. Privacy controls include tracking-script blocking and website permission management. It is aimed at individuals and small organizations seeking browser-level protection rather than a broad phishing-defense system.
The free Standard version provides the core web checks and privacy controls. Premium adds AI-assisted analysis of suspicious pages, checks online shops for signs of fraud, and flags dangerous ads and fraudulent financial sites. According to the product description, Premium is included with eligible Bitdefender subscriptions and is not sold separately. That makes the free version a straightforward option for basic browser protection, while access to the additional scam and fraud checks depends on an eligible subscription.
Web Sage’s scope is its main trade-off: it protects browsing in supported browsers, not email inboxes or an organization’s wider security environment. A Bitdefender account is required, and support is offered by email. Choose it if you want free, real-time browser checks, search-result ratings and privacy controls in Chrome or Edge. Organizations looking for broad email protection or coverage beyond a browser extension should consider a product built for that wider role.
