Our verdict on BIGLOBE Mail

BIGLOBE Mail is a personal email service for BIGLOBE members in Japan. It suits solo users and small households who want browser-based email with optional access through desktop software or mobile apps. The service covers web, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, and includes practical controls such as forwarding, recipient blocking, spam marking, optional spam-folder filtering, and email address changes. Users can also add addresses, including up to 30 separate-use addresses, or choose optional custom-domain email.

The plan structure separates basic browser access from broader client support. Lite is free and provides webmail access, but mail is retained for 30 days and email-software access is not included. Standard adds access through email software and apps. Qualifying BIGLOBE fixed-line, mobile, or WiMAX subscribers receive the Standard connection subscriber plan at no charge, with webmail and email-software or app access included. A paid Standard plan is also available, with a starting price of 220. The free connectivity-linked option makes the service more suitable for existing BIGLOBE customers than for people choosing an email provider independently.

For everyday account management, BIGLOBE Mail offers a useful mix of aliases, forwarding, blocking, and spam handling rather than focusing only on a basic inbox. POP and IMAP support help users work across supported desktop and mobile environments, while cloud, desktop, and mobile deployment cover the main access patterns. The main trade-offs are the BIGLOBE membership requirement, the Lite plan’s shorter retention period, and the 5 GB mailbox with a 20 MB maximum size for each sent or received message. Choose BIGLOBE Mail for aliases, multiple access methods, and custom-domain options; consider an alternative if independent membership or broader service detail is a priority.
