Barristr review
A capable free core for solo lawyers, with narrower ecosystem coverage.

Barristr brings matters, clients, documents, deadlines, calendar events, time entries, invoices, and payment records into one legal practice management platform. It is aimed at solo attorneys and small law firms, with tools that also suit growing practices. The Solo plan includes unlimited matters and clients, billing, invoicing, time tracking, document management, a calendar with six event types, and an AI assistant with retrieval-augmented search. Client-intake forms can route inquiries into the dashboard and create calendar events, while English and French interfaces support bilingual firms.
Pricing needs careful reading. Barristr's homepage states “From $49/month,” while the vendor's current North America and Europe pricing page displays $0 per month for Solo and $0 per user per month for Practice and Practice Pro. Solo focuses on core case administration. Practice adds AI document drafting, document version history, recurring invoices, aging reports, and multiple-office support. Practice Pro adds invoice approval workflows, matter-level access permissions, custom document categories, automatic payment reminders, and priority support. A seven-day free trial is also offered. The published plan display makes Barristr particularly attractive to solo lawyers evaluating a free starting point, but buyers should clarify the applicable commercial terms before committing to a paid tier.
The strongest differentiator is the combination of legal document workflows and AI features. Barristr can draft legal documents and search uploaded firm files through retrieval-based search, with attorney review required for generated output. Matter-linked storage, version history, reference numbers, statuses, filters, and access controls add structure around those files. Billing covers invoice generation, payment recording, reminders, credit notes, and aging reports. The platform is listed for web and API use. Solo practitioners wanting broad core practice tools at no displayed monthly cost should shortlist it; firms that depend on mobile apps, trust accounting, or a wider integration ecosystem should consider alternatives.
