Our verdict on BambooSIM Japan eSIM
BambooSIM sells prepaid, data-only eSIM plans for visitors to Japan. The lineup includes unlimited-data options and fixed bundles on KDDI/au or SoftBank, so it suits travelers choosing between a defined allowance and an unlimited option. Plans do not include a Japanese carrier phone number, making them a poor fit for anyone who needs local voice service from the eSIM.
The listed plans are one-time purchases: the three-day Unlimited eSIM costs $8.95 and specifies unlimited data at 10 Mbps with 2GB of hotspot use on KDDI/au. The four-day bundle costs $10.60 for 12GB of data and 12GB of hotspot use, also on KDDI/au. A 90-day SoftBank plan costs $30 for 30GB of data and 30GB of hotspot use. These examples make the tradeoff concrete: the lowest-priced option is short and speed-limited, while longer validity and larger fixed allowances cost more. Compare hotspot limits as well as the headline data allowance if you plan to share a connection.
Setup uses QR-code delivery, but validity does not start the same way across the plans. KDDI plans begin validity on first connection in Japan; the 90-day SoftBank plan starts when the QR code is claimed from the account. BambooSIM supports iOS and Android, and lists chat support available 24/7. Choose it if you want a prepaid Japan-only plan with a choice of networks, validity periods and hotspot allowances. Look elsewhere if you need a phone number, service outside Japan, or a plan that does not specify a 10 Mbps speed for the lowest-priced unlimited option.
