Baidu ERNIE API is Baidu AI Cloud’s hosted model service on the Qianfan platform. It gives developers programmatic access to ERNIE text-generation, deep-thinking and visual-understanding models, along with other foundation models. Teams can call the service through REST, an OpenAI-compatible interface or the official Qianfan SDK, using API keys. Its scope suits small, mid-market and enterprise developers building multilingual? multimodal applications, structured workflows or model-backed services in the cloud.
Pricing is token-based and paid as usage occurs. ERNIE 4.5 Turbo 32K input is $0.11 per 1M tokens, with output at $0.45 per 1M tokens, and provides online inference with a 32K context model. ERNIE 5.0 input up to 32K costs $0.84 per 1M tokens, while output is $3.38 per 1M tokens; this tier targets text-generation inference. ERNIE 4.5 Turbo VL input is $0.42 per 1M tokens and output is $1.27 per 1M tokens, adding visual-understanding inference through a multimodal model. Published pricing may vary by model version, region and billing method, so usage planning should account for separate input and output rates.
The platform’s main advantage is breadth within one API ecosystem. Qianfan SDK access is available for Python, Java, Go and Node.js, and supports function calling, structured output, embeddings and text-to-image capabilities. OpenAI-compatible access can reduce adaptation work for existing integrations, while REST endpoints support direct service calls. Baidu provides documentation, ticket support and 24/7 support. Choose ERNIE API when you need multimodal and reasoning options with enterprise-oriented support; consider another service if you require on-premises deployment, an open-source model package or audio and speech capabilities.
