Avast Decryption Tools review
A free collection of strain-specific Windows tools, with coverage limited to supported variants.

Avast Decryption Tools is a collection of free downloadable utilities for recovering files encrypted by selected ransomware strains. It is suited to Windows users who can identify or investigate a possible match from Avast's supported-strain list and infection clues. The tools are focused recovery utilities, not a general-purpose option for every ransomware infection.
The strain list is a practical starting point: entries include indicators such as encrypted-file extensions and ransom-note names, and link to a corresponding decryptor where available. Coverage includes named strains such as AES_NI, Babuk, GandCrab and Troldesh / Shade. One tool covers both AtomSilo and LockFile variants, while the CryptoMix decryptor works only for files encrypted using an offline key. These specifics make checking the exact strain and variant important before relying on a tool; a name match alone does not mean every encrypted file is supported.
The utilities are Windows applications. Avast says Mac users need an emulation layer such as WINE or CrossOver, so this is not a direct fit for Mac recovery. Pick the collection if the affected system is Windows and the infection appears to match a listed strain and supported variant. If the strain is outside the list, or the particular encryption does not meet a tool's stated coverage, these decryptors may not help; another recovery route is needed. Avast does not establish that every utility works offline, so the CryptoMix offline-key condition should not be generalized to the rest.
