AUM is an iOS audio mixer, recorder, plugin host and connection hub from Kymatica AB. It routes hardware inputs and outputs, Audio Unit extensions, Inter-App Audio apps, Audiobus ports and sound files while supporting mix busses, effect sends and MIDI control. The app fits solo musicians, producers, performers and small or mid-market teams that need advanced iPhone or iPad routing and live mixing rather than a conventional waveform editor. Multi-channel interface support, hosted instruments and MIDI controllers broaden its role in mobile setups.

AUM - Audio Mixer is a paid plan sold as a one-time App Store purchase, with price varying by region. Its single plan combines the mixer, recorder and connection hub with unlimited channels, built-in effects, MIDI routing, and Audio Unit, Inter-App Audio and Audiobus support. The ecosystem reach is central: integrations include AudioShare, Ableton Link and Virtual MIDI, letting AUM connect apps, hardware and synchronization sources within an iOS setup. There is no separate free tier or tiered upgrade path to evaluate.

The standout depth is routing and synchronized performance. AUM provides a MIDI matrix with full MIDI control, built-in EQ, filtering, saturation and limiter processing, FilePlayer looping and sync, and recording of mixes or individual tracks. Ableton Link and MIDI Clock synchronization support tempo-aware workflows across connected apps and devices. Recordings can be stored in AudioShare, and support is offered through email, community resources and documentation. Choose AUM when live signal flow, plugin hosting and flexible synchronization matter most; choose a more editor-focused app if detailed waveform editing is the primary job.

AUM pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Unlimited CPU-dependent mixer channels for complex iOS routing
    • Hosts Audio Unit, Inter-App Audio and Audiobus with MIDI matrix routing
    • Synchronized recording with Ableton Link and MIDI Clock support
  • Where it doesn't
    • Paid app with no free plan
    • Channel capacity depends on available device CPU
    • More mixer and routing hub than full editing suite
