Aster Mail is an encrypted email service for privacy-conscious individuals, families, and teams. Its core design combines local encryption on supported devices with a zero-access encrypted mailbox architecture. Users can access mail through web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android apps. The service also supports custom domains, aliases, catch-all addresses, mail rules, folders, labels, categories, tracker blocking, two-factor authentication, and OpenPGP for messages sent to external recipients.

Pricing is unusually accessible for a feature-rich secure email service. The Free plan includes 10 GB of encrypted storage, five email aliases, one custom domain, end-to-end encryption, and Aster Bridge access. Star costs $2.42 per user per month with annual billing and adds 50 GB, 15 aliases, five custom domains, and unlimited mail rules. Nova costs $7.25 per user per month with annual billing and raises storage to 500 GB, while adding unlimited aliases and 30 custom domains. Supernova costs $14.50 per user per month with annual billing, includes 5 TB, unlimited aliases and domains, and dedicated support.

Aster Mail also fits users who want to move existing accounts or retain a familiar desktop workflow. Import tools support Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and IMAP accounts, while mailbox export uses standard MBOX format. Aster Bridge connects desktop IMAP and SMTP clients, including Thunderbird and Apple Mail. Security features include authenticator-app and hardware-key two-factor authentication, DKIM, SPF, and DMARC handling, plus OpenPGP support. The apps and cryptography library are open source, but the server code is not public. Choose Aster Mail for broad platform coverage and privacy features at a low paid entry price; consider an alternative if an available encrypted calendar or a longer operating history is important.

    • Founded in 2026, so long-term maturity evidence is limited
