Arclyne is a Windows desktop AI research assistant for students, academics, and other researchers who want local processing. It brings PDFs, scanned PDFs, arXiv papers, web pages, YouTube videos and playlists, and Zotero libraries into searchable workspaces. Users can ask scoped questions within a workspace and receive answers with inline citations linked to source passages or video timestamps. Local embeddings, document extraction, transcription, and offline reader mode support research workflows without uploading source material to the cloud.

The Personal license costs $49 as a one-time fee and includes unlimited workspaces and sources, all six source types, per-paragraph citations, vision model support, lifetime updates on the 1.x series, and personal use on two machines. A 14-day trial is available without a credit card. Team and institution licensing is also available. The standout feature is the combination of local AI processing and source-linked answers: citations can point to document passages or video timestamps, while scoped chat keeps questions tied to selected research material.

Arclyne has a focused platform fit rather than broad cross-device coverage. Zotero synchronization connects an established reference library, while PDF extraction, scanned-PDF detection, arXiv metadata and author extraction, web capture, and YouTube transcription cover several common research inputs. The current downloadable build is for Windows, so it suits researchers working on that platform but not those seeking a current macOS or multi-platform desktop option. Choose Arclyne for private, citation-oriented research across mixed sources; choose an alternative if a free plan, broader platform support, or a larger integration ecosystem matters more.
