Our verdict on ArcDLP
ArcDLP is an open-source desktop application for downloading video and audio from YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter/X, SoundCloud, Instagram, and other sites handled by yt-dlp. It is aimed at users who want a focused graphical interface rather than a command-line workflow. Users can paste video or playlist URLs, choose quality and codecs, extract audio, select playlist items, and review cached download history. The application runs locally, bundles yt-dlp and FFmpeg, and is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Its strongest area is download control. Published features include quality presets up to 4K, MP4 video downloads, audio extraction, and output formats including MP3, M4A, OPUS, and WebM. Codec preferences cover Auto, H.264, VP9, and AV1. Playlist selection, batch downloads, Instagram saved collection scraping, and a sequential queue make it suitable for organizing multiple items. Queue controls include progress, retry, cancel, and skip, while cached metadata supports a download history view. Support for sites handled by yt-dlp gives the application broad source coverage without shifting the workflow to a browser service.
ArcDLP is a good fit for users who want a minimal desktop GUI with local processing, playlist controls, and codec selection across the three major desktop operating systems. Its scope is narrower for buyers who need subtitles, since subtitle downloads are not supported, or for workflows centered on mobile devices or web-based access. Authenticated access is presented through YouTube and Instagram sign-in windows, while the application’s core value remains straightforward video and audio downloading. Choose ArcDLP when open-source desktop software and yt-dlp coverage are priorities; consider an alternative if subtitle handling or a non-desktop workflow is essential.
