Appligent Redax is a Windows desktop plug-in for Adobe Acrobat that permanently removes sensitive text, images, graphics, and full pages from PDF documents. It is aimed at government agencies, law firms, corporations, and health organizations handling classified, sensitive, or private information. The workflow covers both manual markup and repeatable discovery methods, including predefined patterns, custom regular expressions, word and phrase lists, and templates for recurring layouts. Users can also apply exemption codes, redaction categories, and customizable redaction appearances.

The published plans show a paid desktop licensing model. A Single desktop license costs $249 per desktop license and includes one year of support and maintenance. Redax Five (5) Pack costs $999 for five licenses, with one year of support and maintenance included for each license. The Redax and StampPDF package costs $319 and includes one Redax license, one StampPDF license, and one year of support and maintenance for each license. These options make the product easier to position for an individual workstation, a five-license deployment, or a workflow that also needs StampPDF.

Redax’s strongest area is controlled PDF cleanup: beyond covering text and visual content, it offers metadata, annotation, and bookmark removal options, plus redaction reports for record keeping. That combination suits teams that need a documented desktop process rather than a broad document-processing platform. Its focus is narrower when documents require OCR-led detection or batch processing across separate files, and it runs only on Windows through Adobe Acrobat. Choose Redax for traditional, repeatable PDF redaction on Windows; choose an alternative when cross-platform access, scanned-document discovery, or multi-document automation is central to the workflow.
