Appello is a modular construction operations platform for industrial, commercial and institutional subcontractors. It brings scheduling, timesheets, payroll calculations, safety, equipment, materials, project management, job costing, WIP reporting, progress billing and accounting integrations into one system. Its mobile apps support field teams, while office workflows can use QuickBooks Online integration and payroll exports. The product is positioned for mechanical insulation, HVAC, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing and fire-protection firms, with company-size fit spanning small, mid-market and enterprise contractors.

Appello publishes three plans with custom pricing. Operations Starter includes five modules, iOS and Android apps, dedicated support and training. Growth Platform expands to 10 modules and adds full job costing, scheduling and field operations. Complete Platform includes 13 modules, advanced reporting and full integration. Each listed plan includes mobile apps, dedicated support, onboarding assistance and training. Core accounting capabilities include budget-versus-actual reporting, WIP forecasts, progress billing with holdback or retainage, AIA G702/G703 support, payroll exports by job and cost code, and union or prevailing-wage rates.

The platform’s ecosystem covers QuickBooks Online, Sage 50, Payroll4Construction, ComputerEase, CSV, Zapier, Dropbox Sign, Twilio SMS and the Appello API. An API and Appello MCP server provide data access for integrations and AI assistants. Additional modules cover certification-aware crew dispatch, geofenced timesheets, equipment QR tracking, inspections, materials catalogs, purchase orders and safety forms. Contractors seeking a broad mobile operating layer with accounting and payroll connections should consider Appello. Firms needing a narrowly focused accounting tool, or a no-cost evaluation path, may prefer an alternative.

Appello pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Job costing, WIP forecasts and retainage billing support financial control
    • Mobile scheduling, timesheets, safety and equipment tools for field teams
    • QuickBooks Online, payroll exports and API connections support office workflows
  • Where it doesn't
    • Custom pricing requires a sales conversation before costs are known
    • The ICI subcontractor focus may not fit contractors in other trades
    • No free plan is offered for evaluating the platform independently
