APARBooks is cloud construction-accounting software for general contractors, subcontractors and bookkeepers. Its scope combines project job costing and budgets with accounts payable, accounts receivable, operating expenses, reimbursements, change orders, bank reconciliation and financial reporting. Construction-specific workflows include AIA G702/G703 payment applications, automatic retainage calculation and release invoicing, subcontractor payment tracking, preliminary lien-notice and lien-waiver tracking, and WIP reporting. The product is aimed at solo contractors, small firms and growing companies managing multiple projects through a web platform.

Pricing is entirely paid. Project Starter costs $240 per month on monthly billing or $168 per month with annual billing, and includes project payables and receivables, project financial reports, operating expenses, reimbursements and a chart of accounts. Construction Pro costs $520 per month monthly or $364 per month annually. It adds unlimited projects and permissions while retaining the core accounting and reporting functions. The published annual figures are presented as 30% lower than monthly billing, giving firms a lower recurring rate when they commit annually.

The product’s strongest case is a contractor that wants accounting and construction controls in one focused workspace: job costing, cost-to-complete reporting, over- and underbilling visibility, retainage, subcontractor ledgers and payment documentation are all central. AI document capture is available for vendor bills, alongside vendor bills, reimbursements and change orders. Teams that need a web-based system with email and chat support can fit the deployment model. Firms seeking a free entry point, broader platform choices or capabilities beyond this accounting-and-project focus should compare alternatives before selecting a plan.

APARBooks pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • AIA G702/G703 applications with retainage calculation and release invoicing
    • WIP reporting covers cost-to-date, completion, billing and over/underbilling
    • Subcontractor ledgers, lien tracking and AI vendor-bill capture in one system
  • Where it doesn't
    • Web-only deployment narrows platform choice
    • There is no free plan; every user starts on a paid tier
    • Project Starter lacks the unlimited projects and permissions in Construction Pro
