AOS is a cloud construction operating system for general contractors, subcontractors, owners, architects and residential builders. It keeps project management, RFIs, submittals, schedules, change orders, daily logs, pay applications, accounts payable, subcontract administration and closeout on a shared project record. For mid-market GCs, the product centers on pay-app preparation, retainage, project cost control and compliance workflows, with web, iOS and Android access plus an API.
Published plans show a $500-per-month Beta bundle for GCs and subcontractors, covering project management, pay apps, accounting and AP, closeout, a subcontract portal and search. It supports up to 50 active projects during beta and has no per-user fees during beta. Optional monthly modules include Payroll for $500, Accounting & AP for $1,000, Estimating & ITB for $500, Sub Compliance for $200, Compliance Pro for $499 and Residential Builders for $599. These add certified payroll, invoice matching, estimating, document expiry controls, lien-waiver registry functions or residential workflows, depending on the module.
AOS fits teams that want one system for field records, financial controls and subcontractor administration. Integrations include NOAA Weather, email and SMS delivery, Blue Notary, platform API keys and event webhooks. Compliance features include two-factor authentication and SSO/SAML; the vendor describes its controls as SOC 2-aligned rather than SOC 2 Type II certified. Support is listed through email, and some capabilities—including a phone field app and richer cash or owner tools—are available on request. Choose AOS when pay-app, retainage, AP approval and WIP reporting are central; consider alternatives if you need a fully mature, broadly certified platform today.
AOS pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Retainage-enabled pay applications with lien-waiver tracking
- Job-cost reporting compares budget, commitments and actuals by cost code
- API keys and event webhooks support connected workflows
- Where it doesn't
- The product is in open beta, so workflows may still evolve
- The core bundle starts at $500 per month before paid add-ons
- AOS is SOC 2-aligned but not SOC 2 Type II certified
