Annelid review
A free desktop timer for Super Metroid runners who want SNES autosplitting and LiveSplit files.

Annelid is a free desktop speedrun timer and autosplitter aimed at Super Metroid runners, particularly those playing on SNES hardware. It supports manual splits and global hotkeys as well as game-specific autosplitting. The autosplitter reads console or emulator memory through qusb2snes or SNI, for SNES systems using sd2snes/FXPAK. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and is intended for solo use.
Its strongest fit is a runner already working with the supported Super Metroid setup. Annelid imports and edits LiveSplit layout and splits files, allowing those files to be part of a workflow that also uses its own timer. An autosplitter logic editor provides a way to configure splitting logic. These features give it useful flexibility around one game, but its autosplitter currently supports Super Metroid only, based on a community SuperMetroid.asl script. Runners seeking automatic splits across a broader game library may prefer a more general timer with support for their games.
Annelid is described as free, with no paid tiers to weigh. The platform reach is broad for a desktop tool, but confidence differs by operating system: the maintainer says it has only been tested on Linux and that Windows and macOS should work. That distinction matters for runners choosing a dependable event setup. Super Metroid SNES runners who want autosplits, manual control, and LiveSplit file compatibility are the clearest audience; those who need proven Windows or macOS behavior, or autosplitting beyond Super Metroid, should consider alternatives.
