Amplitude Audio SDK is an open-source C++ audio engine for game and VR projects. It targets teams that want direct control over authoring, runtime behavior, spatialization, mixing, and processing rather than a closed audio workflow. The SDK runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS, and officially integrates with O3DE, ezEngine, Godot, and Flax Engine.

Its feature set covers the core requirements of a game audio pipeline. HRTF-based spatial audio and Ambisonics rendering support immersive positioning, while obstruction and occlusion processing address environmental sound behavior. Teams can define assets through JSON-based, data-driven authoring, manage sound banks, and synchronize runtime sound events and states. Attenuation models, positional audio, buses, auto-ducking, and channel prioritization extend the system into mixing and playback control. A customizable processing pipeline and plugin architecture provide room for codecs, filters, and drivers.

The main trade-off is release maturity. Amplitude Audio SDK remains in beta, with source builds and development-only nightly builds available instead of an official production release. That makes it a better fit for open-source teams comfortable working close to the code and accepting an evolving development path. Its desktop platform coverage and four official engine integrations offer a focused foundation, while teams requiring broader verified engine or platform coverage should consider alternatives. Choose Amplitude for flexible audio control, spatial features, and an open-source model; avoid it when production-release maturity is a primary requirement.
