1964 GEPD Edition review
A focused free emulator for GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, and their ROM hacks.

1964 GEPD Edition is a modified 1964 0.8.5 Nintendo 64 emulator for players focused on GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, and modifications built for those games. Its feature set includes support for both titles, their ROM hacks, and Mouse Injector compatibility. The project is free and open source, with Windows builds plus a package preconfigured for Steam Deck. It is aimed at a specific part of the Nintendo 64 emulation audience rather than broad system coverage.
Its strongest fit comes from the depth of that focused feature set. Mouse Injector compatibility is tailored to GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, while the dedicated ROM-hack support addresses players who want more than the original releases. An optional Discord integration package is also available. Steam Deck users get a prepared download rather than only a general desktop build, and Linux is included in the supported platform scope. ROM files are not included, so players need to provide those separately.
The project is described as feature complete since 2023 and retained for archival use and compatibility with older modifications. Its repository became archived and read-only on September 1, 2026, which makes the software a better choice for preserving or playing within its established scope than for expecting active development. Choose 1964 GEPD Edition if GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, ROM hacks, Mouse Injector, or Steam Deck access are your priorities. Choose another emulator if you need broader Nintendo 64 coverage or an actively changing project.
