1099SmartFile is an online service for preparing and filing 1099 forms, including 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC, with the IRS and SSA. It is intended for individuals, businesses, accountants, and corporations that need to manage payees and send recipient copies. Its accountant account supports multiple clients, making it especially relevant to practitioners handling filings for different businesses. The service is cloud-based and also offers an API for filing from tax or payroll software.
Its core filing workflow covers federal e-filing and state submissions through the Combined Federal/State Filing program or direct state filings. Recipients can receive copies by email, or copies can be printed and mailed. Payees and filings can be imported from Excel, QuickBooks Online, and Xero; named integrations also include FreshBooks, Bill.com, Zoho Books, BQE Core, and Wave. TIN and name verification and Type 1 and Type 2 correction filings add useful checks and follow-up capability. Buyers should distinguish the import options from the broader integrations list when evaluating how their existing workflow connects.
According to the vendor's pricing page, federal e-filing is priced once per form: $2.99 for 1–5 forms, $2.49 for 6–25, $1.99 for 26–50, and $1.49 for 51–100. The page lists the 100+ forms tier at $0 per form and says tiered pricing is seasonal from Dec 1 to Apr 1, so confirm how that tier applies before budgeting. There is no free plan. 1099SmartFile suits accountants and businesses that value multi-client handling, corrections, state filing, and recipient delivery in one service. Those seeking a clearly predictable annual subscription or a simpler federal-only workflow may prefer another approach.
