PrivateVPN is a reasonable budget option if you mainly need ten simultaneous devices, a simple app and port forwarding on selected locations. It is not a top pick for privacy-first users on current evidence. Its no-logs policy is the provider’s own claim, and the independent reviews we checked report no public independent audit that confirms it.
This article relies on PrivateVPN’s website and Help Center, plus independent reviews from Top10VPN (2026) and TechRadar (an older review). We did not run new speed or leak tests of our own, so the numbers below are reviewer results under the conditions those reviewers used. Provider pages were checked in early October 2026.
Does PrivateVPN keep logs?
PrivateVPN says it does not. Its Help Center answers the question directly: “No, we do not generate logs of any data traffic.” Its website describes a zero-data-logging policy and claims that Swedish privacy law means it keeps no traffic logs. The privacy policy wording, as quoted by TechRadar in its older review, reads:
“We do not collect or store logs of your activity, including no logging of browsing history, traffic destination, connection time stamps, DNS queries, IP addresses (neither allocated IP nor connected IP), data content or bandwidth.”

These are the provider’s statements. Top10VPN’s 2026 review labels the policy unverified and reports that it found no independent audit. TechRadar makes the practical point that a public audit would give customers evidence that does not rest on the company’s word alone. A detailed policy can still be untested by outsiders, and for a privacy-first decision that is the central gap.
Protocols and WireGuard
The Help Center lists AnyConnect, IKEv2, IPSec, OpenVPN and WireGuard, along with L2TP and PPTP for older devices. It says encryption goes up to 256-bit. A protocol appearing on a feature list does not mean it is easy to use, so the table separates what is offered from what the reviewed sources observed.

If you want WireGuard, expect manual configuration and follow the setup guide for your platform. Unless a device forces you onto an older protocol, use a modern one. L2TP and PPTP are the options the reviewed sources tie to leaks.

Kill switch and leak protection by platform
A kill switch blocks traffic when the VPN tunnel drops, which matters as much as the protocol you choose. The Help Center lists a kill switch for Windows, macOS and Android. It does not list one for iOS or Linux.

The Help Center also claims DNS and IPv6 leak protection. Independent testing does not back that up on every platform. Top10VPN reported IPv6 leakage in its Linux testing and described kill-switch behavior as inconsistent, though its summary does not break that result down by platform. Check both controls yourself on each device using the steps at the end of this article.
Server network and speed
PrivateVPN operates roughly 200 servers, but the country count depends on which page you read. The sources disagree, so confirm the current location list in the app before subscribing for a specific country.

These are reviewer-reported results under that review’s conditions, not a guarantee or a universal benchmark. Top10VPN partly attributes the weaker long-distance results to a small network and congestion. If you mostly connect to nearby countries, the nearby figure is the more relevant one. If you depend on a distant location, test it before you rely on it.
Apps, devices and router use
The vendor lists Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux and router support, and allows ten simultaneous connections. That device allowance is the most concrete reason to consider PrivateVPN at a budget price.

App experience varies by platform. Top10VPN describes simple and advanced views on desktop and a less configurable mobile app. TechRadar’s older review describes a desktop Connection Guard feature and says some controls are missing on certain platforms. Because that review predates current app versions, confirm that the controls it describes exist in the version you install.
Port forwarding is available only on selected protocols and locations, so confirm that the combination you need is supported before you subscribe.

The Help Center says PrivateVPN supports routers, but the reviewed sources do not list which router models work or give model-level compatibility. If you plan to set up whole-home coverage on a router, check the vendor’s setup instructions for your exact model before buying or configuring it.

Pricing and refunds
The figures below are the US-dollar prices shown on the homepage in early October 2026. Regional pricing may differ, and homepage prices can change before checkout.

The Help Center says plans start at $12 per month, which does not match the $9.90 one-month price on the homepage. The sources do not explain the difference, so the checkout price is the one that counts. The 36-month renewal terms are also not explained clearly in the material reviewed, so read them before paying.
The homepage advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. TechRadar’s older review reports that the terms it read restricted refunds for users who had already used the service. Read the current refund terms on the purchase page, and do not treat the guarantee as a risk-free trial.

Who should choose PrivateVPN
PrivateVPN fits you if:
- You need up to ten devices on one subscription and want an app that needs little configuration.
- You need port forwarding and can work within the protocols and locations that offer it.
- Budget matters more to you than an independently verified privacy record, and you accept that the no-logs claim rests on the provider’s word.
Look elsewhere if:
- Your privacy decision depends on independent verification. None is established for PrivateVPN in the reviewed sources.
- You want WireGuard to be a simple in-app selection.
- You regularly connect to distant countries and speed is critical.
- You need a refund after you have used the service.
- You need a specific router model to work without extra configuration.
Checks to run before you pay
- Confirm the location list. Open the app’s server or location list and count the countries you need, since the sources disagree on the total.
- Compare the checkout price with the homepage figures above. Note the renewal date and amount.
- Read the refund terms on the purchase page, paying attention to any clause about use.
- Choose a protocol for each device. On Windows, macOS and Android, open the app’s settings and confirm the kill switch is enabled. For WireGuard, follow the setup guide for your platform.
- Check for leaks on each device. Connect, then load a DNS leak test page and an IPv6 test page. The reported IP address and DNS servers should belong to the VPN, not your home connection.
- Test the kill switch. With the VPN connected and a browser page open, drop the tunnel by briefly disabling your network connection, then try to load a new page. If the kill switch works, traffic stops instead of falling back to your normal connection.
- For a router, confirm model support in the vendor’s setup instructions before buying hardware.
