Tom’s Guide reported that Prime Video added 136 movies on October 1, 2026. If that much choice makes movie night harder, these five picks offer a quick way to narrow it down: science-fiction mystery, disaster drama, action, or two kinds of folk horror. The count and date come from Tom’s Guide’s report, not an independent audit of Prime Video’s catalog; availability can vary by country, date, and account.
Five movies to start with
Choose by the kind of evening you want: the films span reflective science fiction, a real-world disaster story, fast-moving action, and horror that takes place in very different settings. Tom’s Guide featured these titles among the movies it reported as new to Prime Video on October 1, 2026.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017): for science fiction with a mystery at its center
Ryan Gosling plays LAPD Officer K, who investigates rogue replicants and uncovers a discovery that leads him to Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford. The sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 film explores memory and identity through a stark, futuristic visual world. Tom’s Guide highlights Roger Deakins’ cinematography and reports that he won his first Academy Award for this film.
Deepwater Horizon (2016): for a tense disaster drama
Directed by Peter Berg, this biographical drama follows crew members during the blowout and attempted escape from the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010. Tom’s Guide reports that the production used an 85% scale replica of the rig in a Louisiana water tank; that figure is attributed to the article.

John Wick (2014): for stylized action
Keanu Reeves plays a retired hitman whose effort to live quietly is shattered when criminals kill his puppy and steal his 1969 Mustang. Tom’s Guide points to the film’s neon-lit look, sharply dressed characters, and action it says was influenced by Hong Kong cinema and anime. It is the pick here for viewers who want an action-focused story rather than a slow-burn mystery or horror film.
Midsommar (2019): for folk horror in broad daylight
A grieving American student and her companions travel to a remote Swedish community for its midsummer festival. The unsettling contrast is central to the film’s appeal: disturbing events unfold in a bright summer setting rather than the darkness typical of many horror stories.

The Witch: for period horror and an isolated setting
Set in 1630s New England, the film follows a Puritan family isolated on the edge of the wilderness after a child disappears. Tom’s Guide describes its dialogue as drawing on historical journals, court records, and religious texts, with the cast speaking Early Modern English. There is a year discrepancy in the article: its recommendation heading calls the film The Witch (2015), while its full additions list gives The Witch (2016). The source does not resolve that inconsistency, so check the title shown in your Prime Video catalog.

What the 136-movie figure does—and does not—tell you
The figure refers to Tom’s Guide’s report of 136 additions dated October 1, 2026; it should not be treated as a guarantee that every title is currently available to every Prime Video viewer.
