In the U.S., Prime Video comes with Amazon Prime, but its included movies and shows have limited ads. Paid channel subscriptions, rentals and purchases are separate charges. Amazon also offers Prime Video Ultra for $4.99 per month to remove ads from the on-demand Prime movies and shows covered by the upgrade, with some exceptions.
What you pay for with Prime Video
Prime Video brings several kinds of content together in one interface. A title appearing there does not necessarily mean it is included in your Prime membership. Check the title’s listing for whether it is included, offered through a paid channel, or available to rent or buy.

Are Prime Video add-on channels included?
No. Add-on channels are separate subscriptions, not part of the standard Prime membership benefit. Amazon describes them as paid subscriptions to third-party premium networks and streaming channels. You select the channels you want and can cancel; a free trial may be offered where applicable. The trial availability and terms depend on the offer shown for that channel.

Amazon’s add-on help page explains that customers pay for the subscriptions they choose. Because each provider controls its catalog, the titles available through one channel may differ from another, and availability can change. Some channels offer a Watch Live option on supported devices; check the specific channel listing for its current catalog and features.
What does Prime Video Ultra remove ads from?
Amazon lists Prime Video Ultra at $4.99 per month in the U.S. and describes it as an upgrade for an ad-free on-demand Prime Video experience. It applies to the on-demand Prime movies and shows covered by the upgrade, not every item visible in Prime Video. Annual billing is available to annual Prime members, but the cited signup help does not give the annual Ultra amount. Amazon also notes that video features depend on device capability and internet bandwidth, so supported quality can vary by setup. Check the current checkout details and your device’s capabilities before subscribing.

How to decide which charges make sense
- Start with the title: Confirm whether the show or film is included with Prime, requires a channel subscription, or is a rental or purchase.
- Consider your total recurring cost: Add the Prime membership, any Ultra upgrade, and any channel subscriptions you intend to keep. Rentals and purchases are separate one-time charges.
- Match the plan to your ad tolerance: Standard U.S. Prime-included movies and shows have limited ads. Ultra removes ads from covered on-demand Prime titles, subject to Amazon’s stated exceptions.
- Check channel-specific features: Catalog, trial terms and live programming vary by provider; verify the channel’s listing rather than assuming all channels work alike.
- Consider your viewing setup: Ultra’s video features depend in part on device capability and bandwidth.
Do you need a Fire TV device?
No. Amazon says its Fire TV app provides access to video included with Prime or a Prime Video membership, making a Fire TV device an optional way to watch on a television rather than a subscription requirement. Amazon’s Fire TV app information.
