PowerToys 0.93 refreshed the app’s Settings dashboard, regrouping utility controls, shortcuts, and quick-launch options so users could more easily see what was enabled and find tools to open. Microsoft’s stated goal was to address navigation problems reported by users—not a measured improvement in first impressions.
What changed in the PowerToys dashboard
The change was to the PowerToys Settings home page, not a redesign of every utility in the collection. In the August 14, 2025 report on version 0.93, Windows Central described a dashboard organized around three tasks: checking utility states, finding shortcuts, and launching utilities. The homepage also made it possible to launch utilities directly.
- Utility status: Toggles were grouped to make it easier to scan which utilities were on or off.
- Shortcut discovery: Shortcut information was brought into a more accessible place instead of being difficult to locate.
- Quick launching: Users could open utilities from the dashboard rather than first navigating elsewhere in Settings.
The PowerToys team’s reported rationale was: “A lot of you told us the old dashboard was a bit tricky to navigate.” The team cited feedback about unclear on/off states and hard-to-find shortcuts as well as general navigation. Windows Central’s August 14, 2025 coverage attributes the changes to that feedback.

Why the refresh was intended to help
A Settings page is easier to use when people can quickly answer three practical questions: What is enabled? Where are the relevant shortcuts? How do I open the utility I need? Grouping state, shortcut, and launch information around those tasks can reduce the navigation required to answer them.

That is a plausible usability rationale, not proof of an outcome. The cited coverage reports user feedback and the team’s design intent; it does not report a controlled study, a satisfaction score, or a measured change in first impressions. Microsoft’s general Windows app design guidance recommends clear, concise language and predictable navigation, among other practices, but it does not evaluate this particular PowerToys dashboard.
What the reported Command Palette figures mean
Windows Central also reported performance figures from PowerToys release material: Command Palette used 15% less startup memory, loaded 40% faster, loaded built-in extensions 70% faster, and had an installation size approximately 55% smaller. These figures concern Command Palette, not the Settings dashboard, and do not measure whether the dashboard became easier to use.

How the 0.93 refresh fits into PowerToys
Microsoft describes PowerToys as a free, open-source collection of Windows utilities for power users and developers. Its tools cover tasks such as window management, keyboard remapping, command launching, image resizing, and bulk file renaming; the current utility list is available in Microsoft’s PowerToys documentation.
The dashboard story is specifically about version 0.93, reported in August 2025. Later interface updates are separate: Microsoft’s August 2026 PowerToys 0.101 release post describes a redesigned update experience with Stable and Insider channels and an optional compact mode for Command Palette. Those changes should not be mistaken for part of the 0.93 dashboard refresh.
