“Power Loft Adds More Power, Space” was a 2010 report about a data center project in Manassas, Virginia—not a consumer power product or a residential loft. DataCenterKnowledge reported that Corporate Office Properties Trust (COPT), which had acquired the facility, planned more power infrastructure and additional finished data center space. The figures below describe plans and conditions reported at the time; they do not establish the site’s present-day status.
What was Power Loft?
Power Loft was a data center facility in Manassas, Virginia. Rich Miller’s DataCenterKnowledge article, published November 4, 2010, covered COPT’s plans for the property after the company bought it in September 2010 for $115 million.
The article described the overall facility as 233,000 square feet. It did not establish whether the planned work was completed or whether those specifications remain current.

What power and space did the 2010 plans add?
The report said construction had begun on infrastructure for another 3 megawatts. Separately, it described a buildout of the remaining raised floor in the West building, which was expected to yield 50,000 square feet of finished data center space. At the time of the report, approximately 18,750 square feet of that West building space was occupied by two tenants.
#1 Best Overall
- Save valuable floor space: 6U wall mount server cabinet Dimensions: 13.78" H x21.65" W x17.72" D.Maximum mounting depth is 14.2"
- Keep critical network equipment secure: glass door and side panels are lockable to prevent unauthorized access. Front door can be installed on either side of the front of the cabinet to satisfy your door swing orientation preference
- Easy equipment configuration: Fully adjustable mounting rails and numbered U positions, with square holes for easy equipment mounting with top and bottom punch-out panels for easy cable access
- Durability: Made of high quality cold rolled steel holds up to 110lb (50kg) (Easy Assembly Required)
- PCI & HIPPA and EIA/ECA-310-E compliant
The 3-megawatt figure refers to infrastructure under construction, while the article separately attributed 50 megawatts of power capacity to the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC). The report does not say that the construction would raise the facility’s total capacity to 53 megawatts.
What infrastructure did the report describe?
- Cooling: Higher-efficiency centrifugal chillers were among the planned equipment additions.
- Backup power: COPT’s plans included two more Hitec rotary UPS units.
- Power distribution: The report described a hybrid system from Validus DC Power that gave users an AC or DC power option.
- Facility layout: The design separated server areas from mechanical equipment. The article called Power Loft “one of the first designs to create a ‘hard separation’ between the server area and the mechanical equipment.”
The article also said COPT expected to invest an additional $166 million in development costs. That was a stated expectation in 2010, not confirmation that the spending or listed equipment additions were completed.

Does the 2010 report tell you what Power Loft offers today?
No. The report documents historical plans and figures, but does not establish the facility’s current owner, operator, tenants, operational status, capacity, or availability of colocation services. It should not be used as a current specification sheet or as evidence that space or power is available now.
