A portable projector can make it easier to watch movies at a friend’s home or set up an outdoor screening, but “portable” does not necessarily mean it runs without an outlet. Check the power source, streaming support, brightness rating, resolution and setup needs for the exact model. The XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro is a 1080p DLP smart projector with Google TV, but its listed power input is AC; the BenQ GS50 is a battery-equipped alternative.
What “portable” means for a projector
Portable describes how a projector can be moved and set up; it does not guarantee a built-in battery. For an outlet-free viewing spot, check the model’s power specifications rather than relying on the word “portable.” XGIMI lists AC 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz input for the MoGo 3 Pro, while BenQ lists a built-in lithium-ion battery for the GS50. That distinction affects where and how long you can watch. A projector that requires AC power needs a suitable outlet or a separately verified power solution. A battery-equipped model may be more practical away from outlets, but check its own documentation for charging and use details rather than assuming one model’s accessories will work with another.

XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro: a 1080p DLP smart example
XGIMI identifies the MoGo 3 Pro, model XN13A, as a portable DLP projector. Its current specification page lists a 0.23-inch DMD, 1920 × 1080 resolution, 450 ISO lumens, Google TV, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. How the BenQ GS50 differs
The GS50 provides a useful contrast if battery operation matters more than keeping weight down. BenQ’s Asia Pacific specification page lists a built-in lithium-ion battery, Android 10.0 smart system, Android TV dongle among the accessories and a net weight of 2.3 kg. The page does not establish that every regional package includes identical accessories, so check the local listing. BenQ GS50 specifications.

BenQ’s US product page says the GS50 can be charged using a USB-C power bank that supports Power Delivery at 45 W, 15 V and 3 A. This is a GS50-specific charging statement; it does not establish compatibility with the MoGo 3 Pro or other projectors. BenQ also lists two 5 W speakers, a 10 W woofer and a 3.5 mm audio output. Compare picture specifications carefully
Resolution
Check the listed resolution rather than assuming that every portable projector is Full HD. The MoGo 3 Pro is listed at 1920 × 1080. TechRadar’s September 29, 2025 portable-projector comparison includes models listed at 720p, 1080p and 4K, illustrating the range of resolutions in this category. Brightness and viewing conditions
The MoGo 3 Pro is rated at 450 ISO lumens by XGIMI. TechRadar’s comparison reports other projectors using ANSI lumens. ISO and ANSI lumen figures are different measurement standards, so do not treat the numbers as directly interchangeable. In practice, consider the room’s ambient light, the image size you want and the manufacturer’s guidance for placement and use.

For an outdoor movie night, plan for a dark viewing area and a surface or screen that suits the setup. A portable screen may help, but no particular screen compatibility is established here. Do not assume a listed brightness rating guarantees a particular image quality outdoors.

Plan the setup before you travel
- Choose a power plan. Check whether the projector has a built-in battery or requires AC input. For a power bank or power station, verify the required output and projector compatibility in the manufacturers’ documentation. The documented USB-C PD requirement cited for the GS50 should not be applied to the MoGo 3 Pro.
- Confirm streaming access. Check app availability for your region and the services you intend to use. Where a smart platform or dongle is listed, verify what is included in the local package.
- Measure the viewing space. Check the model’s throw-distance and placement guidance, then confirm the room or outdoor spot can accommodate the image size you want. The specifications cited here do not establish a particular image size or outdoor result.
- Allow time to position and focus. Features such as automatic focus and keystone correction, listed for the MoGo 3 Pro, can help with setup. They do not remove the need to place the projector appropriately.
- Decide whether built-in audio is enough. Compare the speaker configuration and available audio connections with the size and noise level of your viewing space. A built-in speaker setup may be convenient without being the right choice for every setting.
Which type fits your movie nights?
- Choose a model like the MoGo 3 Pro if its 1080p resolution, smart features, listed weight and setup aids suit your plans, and you have access to AC power or a separately verified compatible power solution.
- Look at a battery-equipped model like the GS50 if you expect to watch away from an outlet and accept its listed 2.3 kg weight. Confirm local specifications, accessories and the documented charging requirements before relying on a power bank.
- Compare other portable models by their own specifications if resolution, brightness standard, audio, connections, weight or streaming support is more important to your setup than either example.
