The 2026 Porsche Macan Turbo Electric makes its strongest case on the road: reviewer John Velasco describes immediate acceleration, precise cornering and a quiet, comfortable cabin. But his test car cost $149,610, and its automated lane-change assist felt too abrupt. The week-long review points to a clear trade-off: an exceptionally engaging electric crossover, at a price that will be hard to justify for many buyers.
What this week-long review covers
John Velasco’s Tom’s Guide review, published September 17, 2026, concerns a 2026 Macan Turbo Electric. Velasco drove it on highways and backroads, charged it at home, and reported on its performance, efficiency, comfort and technology. His driving impressions and efficiency figure are observations from that review, not results from an independent, controlled test.
How the Macan Turbo Electric drives
Velasco’s standout impression is that the Macan feels unusually involving for an electric crossover. He describes acceleration as immediate and cornering as precise and flat, with a sports-car-like character. Those are subjective impressions, but they explain the appeal better than the power figure alone: the review’s enthusiasm is rooted in how the vehicle responds on the road.
The review’s specification table lists dual permanent-magnet synchronous motors, all-wheel drive and 630 hp. It reports 0–60 mph in 3.1 seconds. These figures describe the 2026 test car as presented in the review; Porsche’s current US listing is for a 2027 model and should not be treated as the same vehicle-year listing.

Efficiency from the review drive
After 200.8 miles, Velasco reported average efficiency of 3.28 miles per kilowatt-hour. That is a result from a limited week-long review drive, not an official range or standardized efficiency rating. Driving conditions, speed, temperature and other factors can affect an EV’s consumption.
The review also gives figures for two other vehicles it had driven: 3.61 mi/kWh for a 2026 Volvo EX30 Ultra Twin Motor Performance and 3.1 mi/kWh for a 2025 Genesis GV60 Performance AWD. These are reported drives, not necessarily same-year, back-to-back or controlled comparisons, so the small differences should not be read as a definitive efficiency ranking.

Charging at home and on the road
During the week, Velasco used both home charging and public charging. The review notes AC charging ports on both rear fenders and a DC fast-charging port on the left side. For home charging, check that the charger, connector and household electrical setup are compatible with the vehicle and local requirements; installation options and terms vary by location.

Cabin comfort, space and technology
Velasco praises the cabin’s quietness and says the rear seats are usable for adults. He also reports a 2.9-cubic-foot front trunk and usable rear cargo space, giving the Macan practical utility alongside its performance focus.
Technology is another strong point in his assessment. He highlights the augmented-reality head-up display, a passenger screen with a privacy feature, an ambient-light blind-spot alert and adaptive cruise behavior. His main technology criticism is automated lane-change assist, which he found too abrupt. Buyers who rely on driver-assistance features should try the system themselves rather than assume every function will feel natural.

What the price means for buyers
The review lists the 2026 test car at $116,760 MSRP and $149,610 as tested. Velasco considers that six-figure as-tested price difficult to justify for many buyers, particularly when less expensive alternatives offer compelling performance. Options and the test vehicle’s configuration matter: its as-tested price is not the starting price for every Macan Turbo Electric.
Porsche’s US page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists the 2027 Macan Turbo Electric from $112,700 MSRP before options, taxes, title, registration, delivery and handling, dealer charges, and potential tariffs. Porsche says dealers set actual selling prices. The 2027 listing is a different model-year reference from the review’s 2026 test car, so its starting price should not be substituted for that car’s MSRP or as-tested total.

Macan Turbo Electric vs. the review’s alternatives
The review’s comparison names the Volvo EX30 Ultra Twin Motor Performance and Genesis GV60 Performance AWD as alternatives. Its reported prices and efficiency figures are not presented as controlled, same-year head-to-head measurements. The distinctions below reflect the review’s framing, not a universal ranking.

Who should consider it?
The Macan Turbo Electric is most persuasive for a buyer who prioritizes an engaging drive, strong acceleration, a refined cabin and high-end technology, and is comfortable paying a substantial premium. Its practical rear seating and cargo areas help it serve as more than a performance-focused second car.
For a buyer whose priorities are value, predictable driver assistance or efficiency judged by standardized comparisons, the review leaves more questions than its enthusiastic driving verdict might suggest. The reported efficiency is one limited drive, the lane-change behavior is a specific usability concern, and the as-tested price is the decisive obstacle for many shoppers.
