A man in his 40s suffered minor injuries in a tent fire on Elder Gate in central Milton Keynes, according to a BBC report. Thames Valley Police and Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service attended, and police enquiries were continuing in the report’s initial update. The available report copy gives no calendar date, cause or later medical update.
What happened in the Elder Gate tent fire?
The BBC report’s available copy says emergency services were called shortly after 15:30 BST on a Friday to a fire involving a tent on Elder Gate, central Milton Keynes. It describes the injured person as a man in his 40s who had minor injuries. Police and local fire crews attended.
The report attributes this initial update to an unnamed Thames Valley Police spokesperson: “Forensic teams will be on scene today while we carry out further inquiries and the cordon is likely to be in place for the majority of the day.” This describes the investigation and expected cordon at the time of the report; it does not establish their later status.

Prevent fires and keep escape routes in mind
- Leave at least six metres between tents and caravans, and keep them away from parked cars.
- Keep cooking appliances away from tent walls. Never cook inside a small tent or close to flammable materials.
- Know how to get out of the tent; the service advises occupants to be prepared to cut their way out if a fire breaks out.
- The Thames Valley Local Resilience Forum advises: “Never use candles in or near a tent – torches are safer.”
If a fire breaks out
- Leave the area and call 999. Give the exact location if you can.
- Do not return until firefighters say it is safe.

Do wider fire statistics describe tent fires?
No. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s figures cover fire and rescue service incidents across England, not tent fires specifically. For the year ending March 2026, the Ministry reported 641,227 incidents attended, a 5.8% increase on the preceding year. Fires accounted for 170,597 incidents, up 19%. A separate Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service update says crews attended 412 open fires in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes since 1 July 2026—196% above the average total for that period in the previous three years. Another Milton Keynes fire should not be confused with the Elder Gate incident: the service records a separate marquee fire at Frobisher Gate on 5 March 2026.
