The base Polar Pacer is a GPS running watch with training, sleep, recovery, and activity features for runners who want more than basic pace and distance tracking. Polar documents a useful mix of running tools and multisport support, but its published battery figures differ by page and mode. The specifications do not establish how accurately its GPS or optical heart-rate sensor performs in everyday use.
What the Polar Pacer is—and is not
Polar positions the Pacer as a watch for newer athletes, centered on running essentials such as pace, distance, laps, GPS, and wrist-based heart rate. It also supports other sports and includes tools for training, sleep, recovery, and daily activity. Its feature set is more extensive than a basic running timer, though whether those tools suit you depends on which ones you will use.
This review covers the base Polar Pacer, not the Pacer Pro. A 2026 TechRadar guide discusses the Pro as a lightweight, stripped-back running watch, but that is secondary coverage of a different model—not a hands-on assessment of the base Pacer or a full comparison between the two.
Polar Pacer specifications
| Specification | Polar’s published information |
|---|---|
| Display | 1.2-inch always-on color display, 240 × 240 pixels |
| Water resistance | WR50 |
| Satellite systems | GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS |
| Battery capacity | 265 mAh rechargeable battery |
| Connectivity and charging | Bluetooth LE; proprietary USB-A charging cable |
| Optical heart-rate system | OHR Gen 3.5 sensor with Precision Prime |
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. WR50 is the rating Polar lists; check the watch’s official guidance for activity-specific water-use limits rather than treating the rating as a guarantee for every water sport.

Battery life: why Polar lists different numbers
Polar publishes distinct estimates on its US product page and in its user manual. They use different mode labels and should not be combined into one expectation.
| Source | Mode | Published estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Polar US product page | Performance training mode | 32 hours |
| Polar US product page | Eco training mode | 155 hours |
| Polar US product page | Smartwatch mode | 6.5 days |
| Polar user manual | Training mode with GPS and wrist-based heart rate | Up to 35 hours |
| Polar user manual | Watch mode with continuous heart-rate tracking | Up to 7 days |
| Polar user manual | Training with power-saving options | Up to 100 hours |
These are Polar’s published estimates, not observed battery results. The figures differ between the product page and manual, so use the mode descriptions closest to your planned use and expect actual endurance to depend on settings and conditions. The particularly long training estimates involve eco or power-saving options, rather than the standard GPS-and-heart-rate configuration described in the manual.

GPS accuracy: what the specification does—and does not—say
Polar’s technical manual specifies GNSS distance accuracy of ±2% and average route accuracy of 5 m in open-area satellite conditions. Polar cautions that buildings or trees can block satellite visibility and affect results. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results; they do not establish how the base Pacer performs on a particular city route, under tree cover, or against another watch.
Training and everyday features
The Pacer’s documented tools span guided training, workout planning, fueling, and recovery. Polar lists:

Feature availability does not show that a tool will match your training style or outperform a competing watch. If you are choosing between models, focus on the specific training, recovery, sleep, and sport-profile functions you expect to use.
Is the Polar Pacer worth it for running?
The base Pacer is worth considering if you want a running-focused GPS watch that also documents multisport profiles and a broad set of training and recovery tools. Its always-on 1.2-inch color display and four listed satellite systems are concrete points to weigh against other watches, alongside the battery mode you would actually use.

Do not buy it on the assumption that published GPS figures guarantee your real-world route accuracy, or that the battery estimates will match your settings. The available manufacturer specifications do not independently establish GPS or wrist heart-rate accuracy, comfort, or observed battery life for the base Pacer.
