The January 27, 2026 Pokémon TCG announcement was for Professor Fir’s Learning Lab, a new single-player mode in Pokémon TCG Live. January 27 was the soft-launch date; the official release was scheduled for January 29, 2026, according to Pokémon’s January 20 announcement.
What was the January 27 Pokémon TCG release?
It was the planned soft launch of Professor Fir’s Learning Lab, an in-game learning and practice mode for Pokémon TCG Live—not a newly announced physical card set. Pokémon described it as a permanent, expandable, single-player feature with on-demand gameplay lessons for players at different skill levels.
The schedule was repeated in Pokémon’s January 22, 2026 community letter. These dates are historical: the announcement set the soft launch for Tuesday, January 27, and the official release for Thursday, January 29, 2026.

What could players learn in the announced classrooms?
The initial version was announced with two classrooms, each aimed at a different kind of practice.

This classroom was designed to help players practice particular skills in preparation for Standard Ranked play.

Pokémon presented Learning Lab as a feature within Pokémon TCG Live. The announcement did not say that players need physical cards or must purchase a product to access it.
What additions were planned?
In its January 20 announcement, Pokémon said it planned to expand the mode over time. The stated plans included classrooms tied to seasonal rotations, new modes such as Trainer Trials challenges, new deck grants, and lessons covering mechanics introduced in future expansions.

Pokémon also said some classrooms would be permanent while others could be time-limited. Lesson-completion rewards were described as a future feature, but the announcement gave no delivery date. These were plans stated in January 2026; the cited announcements do not establish which additions or rewards have since become available.

No physical product was named as part of the announcement, and the mode was described as playable inside Pokémon TCG Live. Pokémon Support lists preconstructed decks and booster packs among general physical Trading Card Game product types, but that information does not make either a requirement for Learning Lab: Pokémon Support’s product overview.
