The 7-star Mewtwo Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet was a limited-time event that ended on September 17, 2023; it is not currently scheduled content. For that battle, a useful counter was Bug-Tera Mew with an Adamant nature, using Struggle Bug and Light Screen to blunt Mewtwo’s special attacks before boosting with Swords Dance and dealing damage with Leech Life. The event boss itself was Modest, with Psystrike, Aura Sphere, Ice Beam, and Calm Mind. These are raid-specific recommendations, not a universal current competitive Mewtwo build.
What happened to the Mewtwo raid?
The special 7-star Tera Raid ran from September 1, 2023, at 00:00 UTC through September 17, 2023, at 23:59 UTC, according to The Pokémon Company’s event announcement. The event has ended, so these instructions describe how to approach that historical raid rather than a currently available encounter.
Mewtwo normally cannot be encountered in Paldea. In the event, it had Psychic as its Tera Type, making Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type attacks super effective. Players needed current Poké Portal News to access the event; the official announcement also said players could join a 7-star raid hosted by someone who had unlocked the postgame event. What nature and moves did the event Mewtwo have?
The raid-caught Mewtwo was reported as Modest, with Psystrike, Aura Sphere, Ice Beam, and Calm Mind. These are the event boss’s listed catch details, not a recommendation for a player’s Mew or a general competitive moveset; Serebii’s event data listing documents them.

GameWith’s raid strategy also reports that Mewtwo could use Rest when its HP was low, with a Chesto Berry interaction after its shield was broken. Treat that as a strategy guide’s account of the battle mechanics, rather than an official event announcement; it is described in GameWith’s 7-star raid guide.
Which Mew build was recommended for the raid?
GameWith recommends a Bug-Tera Mew with an Adamant nature, Synchronize, and four moves: Leech Life, Swords Dance, Light Screen, and Struggle Bug. Its example EV spread is 252 Attack, 252 Speed, and 4 Defense. This is a raid-specific build from the 2023 guide, not an official tournament standard.

The event guide said Mew received a battle boost in the raid and could receive the Mightiest Mark. GameWith warns that defeating Mewtwo solo was very difficult and recommends team play.

How should you use Mew during the battle?
- Lower Mewtwo’s Special Attack. Use Struggle Bug to reduce the damage threat from its special attacks and support the team.
- Protect the group. Set Light Screen, then refresh it when needed rather than letting team protection lapse.
- Build Mew’s Attack. Use Swords Dance when the team can safely afford the setup turn.
- Attack and recover. Use Leech Life for damage; its healing effect also helps restore Mew’s HP.
- Adjust to the raid state. Pay attention to the shield and the party’s health, and prioritize support again if the team is in danger. The sequence is a plan, not a guaranteed win.
The underlying trade-off is straightforward: Bug attacks exploit the Psychic Tera Type, Struggle Bug reduces Mewtwo’s special pressure, Light Screen protects allies, and Leech Life combines offense with recovery. Ghost- or Dark-type attackers can also exploit the Tera weakness, but this Mew build emphasizes team support as well as damage.

Can you still catch Mewtwo from the event?
The official event page said the special Mewtwo could be caught only once per save data. Players who had already caught it could continue challenging the raid for rewards while it was available. Because the event ended in September 2023, buying Scarlet or Violet now does not restore access to that expired event.
