The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet expansion is called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. It includes two story chapters: The Teal Mask, set in Kitakami, and The Indigo Disk, set at Blueberry Academy. Buy the edition that matches your game—Scarlet DLC for Pokémon Scarlet or Violet DLC for Pokémon Violet. You can start The Teal Mask after unlocking the Treasure Hunt; The Indigo Disk’s main story requires later story progress.
What is included in the Scarlet and Violet DLC?
The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is a paid, two-part expansion for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. It adds new locations, characters, Pokémon, and returning Pokémon that were absent from the base games.
| Part | Setting and premise | Release date |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1: The Teal Mask | Kitakami, where the player investigates local folktales during a school trip | September 13, 2023 |
| Part 2: The Indigo Disk | Blueberry Academy, an unusual school mostly located under the ocean, where battling is prominent in the curriculum | December 14, 2023 |
Nintendo lists the two parts and their release dates in its DLC overview. The Pokémon Company also describes the expansion’s settings and content on its Scarlet and Violet game page.

The expansion is tied to the base-game version you own. Pokémon Scarlet requires The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero for Scarlet; Pokémon Violet requires the Violet edition. The two DLC editions are not interchangeable. If you own both base games and want the expansion in both, you need the corresponding DLC for each.

- Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
Check the game version before buying. Nintendo’s DLC access troubleshooting guide explains the matching-version requirement. The Pokémon Company announced physical Pokémon Scarlet + DLC and Pokémon Violet + DLC bundles in 2023; that announcement does not confirm current retailer stock or the contents of a present-day listing. See the bundle announcement and verify the exact product listing before purchasing.
How to access The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk
- Buy and download the matching expansion. Select the Scarlet edition for Scarlet or the Violet edition for Violet. If the DLC has not been downloaded, Nintendo says the in-game Downloadable Content icon can open Nintendo eShop. The game menu’s DLC icon can also help you check installation.
- Unlock the Treasure Hunt to begin The Teal Mask. The Teal Mask story becomes accessible once the Treasure Hunt has been unlocked in the base game.
- Complete the later story requirements for The Indigo Disk. To access its main story, finish the base game’s main story, view the credits, and complete The Teal Mask events.
Nintendo’s access guide covers installation, compatibility, and these story gates. Purchasing the DLC also makes the New Uniform Set available immediately, according to Nintendo Support; that outfit access does not unlock either adventure ahead of its story requirements.

Does Pokémon HOME unlock The Indigo Disk?
No. Pokémon HOME compatibility is separate from the DLC’s purchase, installation, and story-progress requirements. The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon HOME version 3.2.1 added compatibility with The Indigo Disk on December 14, 2023, but Nintendo’s access requirements for the main story are owning and installing the matching DLC and meeting the stated story milestones. See the HOME compatibility announcement.
