Yes—Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced that the Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will connect to Pokémon HOME beginning in October 2026. But the official information available as of October 7 does not confirm that Pokémon HOME version 4.1.0 has been released or that the connection is live. When the feature arrives, transfers from either game to HOME will be one-way.
Is the FireRed and LeafGreen connection live yet?
Not confirmed by the official sources available as of October 7, 2026. The Pokémon Company announced on August 13 that the Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen were set to link with Pokémon HOME beginning in October. Nintendo’s HOME update-history page still lists version 4.0.0, released April 1, 2026, as its latest version. So the announcement establishes an October plan, not a verified 4.1.0 release date or live connection.
For an installed HOME update, Nintendo’s update-history page explains how to check the software version and install updates. Until an official update listing or in-game connection confirms availability, treat the feature as announced rather than usable.
How will Pokémon HOME transfers work?
The announced connection is for moving Pokémon out of the Switch versions of FireRed and LeafGreen and into Pokémon HOME. It is not a round trip: The Pokémon Company states that once a Pokémon from either game is moved into HOME, it cannot return to either one. Pokémon from other games also cannot be sent into FireRed or LeafGreen.

“Once a Pokémon from Pokémon FireRed Version or Pokémon LeafGreen Version is moved into Pokémon HOME, it will be unable to return to Pokémon FireRed Version or Pokémon LeafGreen Version.” — The Pokémon Company, August 13, 2026
Plan accordingly before transferring a Pokémon you want to keep using in the original game. The announcement does not establish a complete species-by-species list of which other compatible games can receive each transferred Pokémon; HOME’s general guidance says a Pokémon can only be moved to games in which it appears. See Pokémon HOME’s movement guide for that general rule.

Will completing the Pokédex earn Celebi?
Yes. After HOME connects to a game, Pokémon already registered in that game’s Pokédex are registered in HOME. Completing the FireRed or LeafGreen Pokédex qualifies you to receive Celebi as a Mystery Gift in the mobile version of Pokémon HOME. The announcement does not say you need to transfer those Pokémon into HOME to qualify, so do not confuse Pokédex registration with making a one-way transfer.

What else does the announcement include?
Postgame tickets and encounters
After you defeat the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame, the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket are automatically added to Key Items. The Mystic Ticket leads to Lugia and Ho-Oh encounters; the Aurora Ticket leads to a Deoxys encounter.

More Premium storage
The announced version 4.1.0 update raises Pokémon HOME Premium storage from 6,000 to up to 9,000 Pokémon, according to The Pokémon Company International’s 2026 announcement. The company says the Premium price will not change. This storage announcement does not establish that Premium is required for the FireRed and LeafGreen connection.
Pokémon GO Safari Balls
After the October update, Pokémon caught with a Safari Ball in Pokémon GO are to be transferable to HOME. A Safari Ball changes to a Strange Ball when the Pokémon is in HOME.

What versions of FireRed and LeafGreen are available on Switch?
Nintendo says the Switch editions are digital-only; it will not release physical copies. Its US English FireRed eShop listing gives the download size as 39 MB and lists Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility. Nintendo also warns that language editions are separate versions, not an in-game language choice. Check the language edition before buying. The available official information does not establish a gameplay reason to choose one version over the other.
Nintendo addresses the direct question “Will these games work with Pokémon HOME?” in its FireRed and LeafGreen FAQ. If you already own compatible Switch hardware, you do not need another console to use the digital games; Nintendo’s announcement does not identify a physical game release.
