Pokémon Bank is for storing Pokémon on Nintendo 3DS; Pokémon HOME is the newer service for storing and moving Pokémon among supported games. You can transfer Pokémon from Bank to HOME, but the move is one-way and requires a paid Pokémon HOME Premium Plan. Pokémon Support has announced that Bank service and Bank-to-HOME transfers will end on February 26, 2027, at 03:00 UTC, so move anything you want to keep accessible before then.

Pokémon Bank vs. Pokémon HOME at a glance

What to compare Pokémon Bank Pokémon HOME
Role in the transfer Source service for moving Pokémon to HOME. Destination service for Pokémon moved from Bank; it also connects to supported games.
Transfer direction Pokémon can move from Bank to HOME, but not back. Receives Pokémon from Bank. A Pokémon moved into HOME cannot be returned to Bank. Pokémon Support explains the one-way restriction.
Device or account route For the selectable-Boxes route, use a 3DS with Bank and enter a Moving Key. A 3DS is not required for the account-linked route. Use HOME and link the Nintendo Network ID associated with Bank to the Nintendo Account associated with HOME. Without a 3DS, the documented transfer moves all Pokémon in Bank at once.
Paid plan for Bank transfer No separate Bank fee is specified in the cited transfer guidance. A paid Premium Plan is required to transfer from Bank. Nintendo Switch Online is not required.
Access after Premium expires Not applicable to Bank storage. If more than 30 Pokémon have been deposited or traded, the 30 most recently deposited or traded are accessible in the Basic Box. Other Pokémon remain stored for an unspecified period but cannot be viewed or withdrawn on Basic.
Bank transfer availability Bank service is scheduled to end February 26, 2027, at 03:00 UTC. Bank-to-HOME transfers are scheduled to stop at the same time.

What you need to transfer Pokémon from Bank to HOME

  • A Pokémon HOME account with a paid Premium Plan. Pokémon Support says a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for the Bank transfer.
  • The Nintendo Network ID used with Bank and the Nintendo Account associated with HOME for the account-linked route.
  • A Nintendo 3DS if you want to choose specific Boxes and use a Moving Key. Without a 3DS, the documented route moves every Pokémon in Bank at once.

Pokémon Support says Nintendo Accounts and Nintendo Network IDs can be set up at no cost, but its cited guidance does not establish a current Premium price, billing term, or local storefront price. Check the Pokémon HOME listing in your region before subscribing rather than relying on an amount quoted for another country or an earlier date. See the official transfer guidance for the paid-plan requirement.

How to transfer Pokémon from Bank to HOME

With a Nintendo 3DS: select Boxes

  1. In Pokémon Bank, select Move Pokémon to Pokémon HOME, then choose the Boxes you want to move.
  2. In Pokémon HOME, start the move and display the Moving Key.
  3. Enter that key in Bank within three minutes; it expires after that window.
  4. Follow the prompts to choose how the transferred Pokémon are deposited into HOME Boxes.

Without a Nintendo 3DS: move the full Bank collection

  1. Link the Nintendo Network ID used with Bank to the Nintendo Account associated with HOME.
  2. In HOME, choose the option to move Pokémon without a 3DS and confirm the linked Nintendo Network ID.
  3. Review the transfer and proceed only if you are ready to move every Pokémon in Bank at once.

Both routes move Pokémon in one direction only. Once a Pokémon has been transferred to HOME, it cannot be sent back to Bank. The steps and Moving Key timing are described in Pokémon Support’s transfer guide.

What happens when Pokémon HOME Premium expires?

If you have more than 30 Pokémon in HOME when Premium expires, only the 30 most recently deposited or traded Pokémon are accessible in the Basic Box. Pokémon outside that accessible set remain stored for a period Pokémon Support does not specify, but on Basic you cannot view or withdraw them. Re-enrolling in Premium restores access to their information and lets you move them out. This is an access restriction; the guidance does not say that the other Pokémon are immediately deleted. See Pokémon Support’s Premium-expiration FAQ.

Which games can Pokémon HOME connect to?

Compatibility depends on the game and Pokémon, so HOME is not a universal route into every title. Pokémon Support’s Nintendo Switch connection guide documents connections to Pokémon Sword, Pokémon Shield, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!, and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!. In HOME, Pokémon that cannot be moved to the selected game are marked with an icon.

That list is not a complete current compatibility matrix for every Pokémon game or species. Check the current official game-connection guidance and the HOME interface for the specific Pokémon and destination game you have in mind. Moving a Pokémon into HOME does not guarantee that it can be moved into a particular game.

When does Pokémon Bank shut down?

Pokémon Support’s notice, published August 18, 2026, sets the end of Bank service and Bank-to-HOME transfers for February 26, 2027, at 03:00 UTC. Treat that as a hard deadline for this transfer route, not merely a general estimate that Bank will close sometime in 2027. The official shutdown notice gives the announced time.
