The Poin2 Chromebook 14 was an appealing budget Chromebook in its 2019 review: it paired a 14-inch Full HD touchscreen with a metal-finished chassis and useful ports. But its old “under $300” value judgment is historical, and support is now the key concern. Google lists a Poin2 Chromebook 14T through June 2027, with an asterisk indicating extended-update opt-in may be required. Verify the specific unit’s update schedule before buying.
What the Poin2 Chromebook 14 offers
Poin2’s product page lists a 14-inch Full HD IPS multi-touch display, MediaTek MT8173 quad-core ARM processor, 4GB of LPDDR3 memory and 32GB of eMMC storage. The configuration is suited to light browser work, not demanding multitasking.
| Feature | Listed specification |
|---|---|
| Display | 14-inch Full HD IPS multi-touch |
| Processor | MediaTek MT8173 quad-core ARM |
| Memory and storage | 4GB LPDDR3; 32GB eMMC |
| Connectivity | 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi; Bluetooth 4.0 |
| Ports | USB Type-C with charging, USB 3.0, HDMI, audio combo jack and SD card reader |
| Battery | 47Wh; up to 12 hours, a manufacturer rating rather than an independently tested result |
Poin2’s page also mentions 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years. That is a historical bundle detail, not an offer to assume is available with a current purchase. The official page does not state the model number LT0301-01US; if a listing uses that number, compare its label and configuration with the advertised unit.
How it performed in the 2019 review
Chrome Unboxed’s review, published June 26, 2019, praised the aluminum-finished top, bottom and keyboard deck for feeling substantial at the time’s budget price. The reviewer described the screen as having good viewing angles and acceptable brightness in most conditions.

- 14" fhd ips touchscreen display with 360 flip; Intel 4k graphics
- Intel n100 processor 4-core up to 3.40ghz, 4gb ddr5 ram, 64gb storage
- 1x usb type c, 1x usb type a, 1x headphone microphone jack,
- Super fast 6th gen wifi and bluetooth 5, 720p webcam with integrated dual array digital microphones
- Chrome os, serenity blue color, ac charger included
Keyboard, trackpad and ports
The keyboard was judged average and lacked backlighting. The tested trackpad remained smooth, but its click felt unusually stiff; the reviewer noted that the issue might have been specific to that sample. Built-in HDMI and SD card reader were practical advantages for connecting to a projector or reading a camera card without relying on adapters. The review also noted USB-C, USB-A, a headphone/microphone jack and a Kensington lock.
Performance and workload
The reviewer found ordinary browsing acceptable when keeping the workload modest, but many open tabs and windows could bog the processor down. Some Android games performed better than expected in that reviewer’s experience. Those observations are not benchmarks or a promise about current apps. With 4GB of memory and 32GB of storage, this is a better fit for light browsing than heavy multitasking.

The catch: confirm update support before you buy
In 2019, Chrome Unboxed already identified the Chromebook’s age as a drawback and estimated that roughly three to three-and-a-half years of support remained. That was an estimate at the time, not its current support deadline.

Google says eligible pre-2021 Chromebooks may need to opt in to extended updates. These updates provide security, performance and stability updates, but opting in removes Android app and Google Play Store support. Check the exact device in ChromeOS at Settings → About ChromeOS → Additional details → Update schedule. Google identifies this device-specific schedule as the reliable way to assess remaining official support.
A Chromebook may still be usable after its final update, but it no longer receives ChromeOS and browser security updates, bug fixes or new features. The trade-off is especially important if you depend on Android apps: extended updates can mean giving up Play Store access.

Is it still a good value?
Chrome Unboxed described the Chromebook as selling new on Amazon for $250–$300 in 2019; its video also referred to roughly $250–$260. Those are historical figures, not a current price check, and the review’s “best under $300” framing should not be treated as a present-day ranking. Current stock, price and listing condition have not been established here.

Who should consider the Poin2 Chromebook 14?
- Potentially suitable: someone seeking a basic machine for light browser tasks who values a touchscreen, HDMI and SD reader, and who has verified the individual unit’s update status.
- Look elsewhere: anyone who needs a dependable long-term support runway, routinely multitasks with many tabs, or requires Android apps while opting into extended updates.
The original review’s strengths—screen, metal finish and port selection—remain useful features to assess on a particular unit. They do not outweigh an update schedule that is too short for your needs.
