The POCO X8 Pro Max is the better fit if you want the bigger battery and larger screen. The POCO F9 Pro is the better fit if you want a dedicated 2.5x telephoto camera and the higher display refresh rate. Both sets of advantages come from Xiaomi’s own published specifications, not from independent side-by-side testing. On Xiaomi’s Spanish online store, the F9 Pro’s starting price was €470 higher than the X8 Pro Max’s, but that gap depends on country, configuration, and promotion.
Specs side by side
The table below uses the figures Xiaomi and POCO publish for each phone. Where a spec is not in the official material we consulted, the cell says so.
| Spec | POCO X8 Pro Max | POCO F9 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 8500mAh typical (POCO launch page) | Not stated in the official material consulted |
| Display | 6.83-inch AMOLED, 120Hz | 6.59-inch display, selectable refresh up to 185Hz (Xiaomi UK POCO F9 Pro FAQ) |
| Main camera | 50MP with OIS (Xiaomi Indonesia specification listing) | 200MP main (Xiaomi product information) |
| Telephoto | Not listed; the cited listing shows a 50MP main and an 8MP ultrawide | 50MP 2.5x floating telephoto |
| Ultrawide | 8MP (Xiaomi Indonesia specification listing) | 8MP (Xiaomi product information) |
| Processor | MediaTek Dimensity 9500s | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V series (SM8850-1-AB), with a dedicated graphics chip that Xiaomi positions for gaming |
| Company-reported benchmark | AnTuTu score of 3,085,998, from POCO Internal Labs in 2026, tested with AnTuTu V11.0.5 at around 25°C | Not stated in the official material consulted |
| Launch reference | X8 Pro Series launch event on March 17, 2026, 20:00 GMT+8; POCO notes availability may vary by market | Sold under first-sale terms; see the price section below |
Every figure here is a manufacturer specification or a company-run test. No independent head-to-head benchmark, camera test, or battery-life test of these two phones was found in the sources reviewed.
Battery and screen: the X8 Pro Max’s strengths
The X8 Pro Max lists an 8500mAh typical battery. POCO describes it as offering “2-day battery life,” a manufacturer claim based on internal data. Real endurance depends on usage, network, and settings, and the official material does not say how that claim was measured.

The X8 Pro Max also has the larger screen, at 6.83 inches against the F9 Pro’s 6.59 inches. Both use AMOLED-type panels, but the X8 Pro Max’s listed refresh rate is 120Hz, while the F9 Pro can be set higher, up to 185Hz according to Xiaomi’s FAQ. Higher refresh rates make scrolling and some games look smoother, but they do not guarantee higher frame rates. Frame rates depend on the game, its settings, and how the chip manages heat.
Camera: the F9 Pro’s clearest advantage
The F9 Pro is the phone with the dedicated telephoto lens. Xiaomi’s POCO F9 Pro FAQ states: “It features a 50MP 2.5x floating telephoto camera.” The FAQ does not name an individual spokesperson. The X8 Pro Max’s listed camera setup is a 50MP main camera with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide, so it does not offer a listed telephoto lens.

A 200MP main sensor is not, on its own, evidence of better photos. Pixel count, sensor size, processing, and lens quality all affect results. If you mainly shoot at standard or wide framing, the F9 Pro’s telephoto lens is the key difference; if you shoot a lot of sharp, well-lit wide shots, the spec sheets do not show a clear winner.

The two phones use different chip families. The X8 Pro Max runs MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500s. The F9 Pro runs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V series, and Xiaomi says it includes a dedicated graphics chip for gaming. POCO’s AnTuTu score of 3,085,998 for the X8 Pro Max is a company-run result under specific test conditions, and it cannot be compared directly with scores from other testers. No comparable company figure for the F9 Pro was found, so no performance ranking can be drawn from the official material.

The price difference, and why it is only a snapshot
Xiaomi’s Spanish online store showed the POCO X8 Pro Max from €429.99 and the POCO F9 Pro from €899.99. The gap between those two starting prices is €470. The listing does not establish a standing price, and it may have changed since it was captured.
The F9 Pro also had a limited first-sale promotion in Spain, running September 1 to 21, 2026. Under that promotion:

That promotion ended on September 21, 2026, so it does not reflect current pricing. The X8 Pro Max’s listed starting price does not specify RAM and storage in the same way, so compare configurations before drawing conclusions. A same-country comparison should match:
- RAM and storage capacity
- Seller and whether it is official Xiaomi or a third-party retailer
- Warranty terms and included accessories, such as the charger
- Whether a promotion is active on the day you buy
Prices change by country, stock, and campaign, so the €470 figure is a Spanish snapshot, not a global price gap.
Which one to choose
- Choose the X8 Pro Max if battery capacity and a larger screen matter more than telephoto zoom, and if its listed starting price fits your budget in your country.
- Choose the F9 Pro if you want a dedicated 2.5x telephoto lens, a higher refresh rate option, and Xiaomi’s stated gaming-oriented graphics hardware, and you can pay its higher price.
- Check the live store first if you are comparing prices, because the figures above are not current offers.
Before buying, confirm the exact model, RAM and storage, and warranty with the seller. If you can, test each phone’s camera and display in person, because the official specifications do not show how either performs in real use.
What the evidence does and does not establish
The specifications, the launch date, and the storefront prices come from POCO and Xiaomi materials. The camera detail for the X8 Pro Max comes from Xiaomi Indonesia’s listing, the F9 Pro FAQ comes from Xiaomi UK, and the prices come from Xiaomi Spain. Regional variants can differ in battery, charger, memory options, availability, and warranty. Independent measurements of battery life, camera quality, or gaming performance for these two models are not established by the sources reviewed, so any claim that one phone is generally better needs testing that has not yet been published.
