POCO’s F9 Ultra keeps the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset used in the F8 Ultra. That makes the processor a carry-over from the predecessor, not a new chipset-generation upgrade. Whether the F9 Ultra costs more is a separate question: available UK price details conflict, so compare current local prices for the same storage configuration before calling it a price increase.
Is the F9 Ultra using an older chip?
It uses the same chipset as the F8 Ultra, according to TechRadar’s September 2026 review. POCO’s official F9 Ultra specifications identify the platform as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The precise criticism, then, is that POCO has carried over the F8 Ultra’s chipset rather than giving the F9 Ultra a new processor generation. Calling it simply an “older chip” could wrongly suggest it is an older generation than the one POCO lists.
POCO presents an AnTuTu V11 score of 4,165,108 on its product page. That is a manufacturer-provided benchmark figure, not an independent test result; it does not establish how the phone performs in sustained workloads or how it compares with the F8 Ultra under the same test conditions.
Is the F9 Ultra more expensive?
The available UK price statements are inconsistent, so they do not support a reliable single price or a precise increase over the F8 Ultra. TechRadar’s launch report discusses the unchanged chipset and pricing context, but check the official storefront for your country before deciding that the F9 Ultra costs more.

For a fair comparison, use the same country, the same storage tier, and prices available at the same time. A higher-capacity F9 Ultra compared with a lower-capacity F8 Ultra would not establish a like-for-like price increase. Regional offers and availability can also change what a buyer actually pays.
What else is part of the upgrade?
TechRadar’s review highlights a larger battery, a 200MP main camera, and changes to the audio hardware as part of the F9 Ultra’s broader case. These are reasons to assess the phone beyond its processor, but the available comparisons do not establish exact regional model specifications or a complete, like-for-like measurement of every change. Check the specification for the model sold in your market before relying on a particular camera, battery, or audio detail.

How to decide whether the F9 Ultra is worth buying
The shared chipset alone cannot settle the value question. Compare the two phones using current, equivalent listings and the features you will use:
- Match the market and storage tier. Compare prices in your country for the same RAM and storage configuration, and check whether a listed price is an active local offer.
- Assess performance for your workload. The chipset is carried over; a vendor benchmark score by itself does not show sustained performance or prove a real-world advantage over the F8 Ultra.
- Weigh the other hardware. Consider whether the F9 Ultra’s reported battery, camera, and audio changes matter more to you than a new chipset would.
- Check ownership details. Verify the exact regional model, software-support terms, warranty, and availability for both phones before paying.
If the F9 Ultra is priced higher in your market, the decision is whether its other changes justify that difference for your needs—not whether the processor alone represents an upgrade. If the prices are close, the same comparison still applies: choose based on the full package and the terms of the local listing.
