The POCO F9 Ultra is the newer and higher-specified phone. On paper it has the stronger chipset, a larger and faster display, a bigger battery, and a telephoto camera the F7 lacks. The POCO F7 is the older model and was sold at a lower launch price. No reliable like-for-like price gap between the two can be stated today, because the launch prices and listed prices come from different markets, storage tiers, and dates.
What separates the two phones
The F7 launched on June 24, 2025. The F9 Ultra was announced on September 1, 2026, according to PhoneArena’s comparison, so the F9 Ultra is roughly fifteen months younger. That gap matters most for software support and for the chipset generation, both of which favor the newer model.
Xiaomi positions the F9 Ultra for gaming and heavy use. Its FAQ says the phone “is positioned as a flagship gaming smartphone designed for an immersive and powerful gaming experience.” That is the manufacturer’s own description, not an independent verdict. The F7 was pitched as a high-value performance phone, and its spec sheet reflects that: a cheaper chipset and a smaller battery.

| Spec | POCO F7 | POCO F9 Ultra | What the difference means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Release | June 24, 2025 | September 1, 2026 (announcement date per PhoneArena) | The F9 Ultra is the newer generation. |
| Processor | Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (TechRadar) | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (Xiaomi FAQ) | The F9 Ultra uses the higher-tier listed chipset. Listed chipset tier does not establish benchmark or sustained-gaming results. |
| Display | 6.83-inch AMOLED, 2772 × 1280, up to 120Hz (TechRadar) | 6.9-inch, 2608 × 1200, up to 185Hz (Xiaomi FAQ; PhoneArena lists the same resolution) | The F9 Ultra is larger with a higher maximum refresh rate. Its pixel grid is smaller, so it should not be called sharper. |
| Battery | 6,500mAh (TechRadar) | 8,050mAh (Xiaomi FAQ) | 1,550mAh more rated capacity on the F9 Ultra. Capacity does not by itself prove longer real-world runtime. |
| Rear cameras | 50MP main, 8MP ultra-wide (TechRadar) | 200MP main, 50MP 5x telephoto (Xiaomi FAQ) | The F9 Ultra adds a dedicated long-range telephoto on paper. Megapixel counts alone do not predict photo quality. |
| Weight | 215.7g (TechRadar) | 235g (Xiaomi FAQ) | About 19g heavier on the F9 Ultra, per these two sources. Xiaomi notes its figures may vary. |
Performance and gaming
The F9 Ultra’s headline advantage is its chipset. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is listed for the F9 Ultra and Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 for the F7. Neither source in this comparison provides independent benchmark scores, thermal measurements, or sustained-frame-rate tests for the two phones side by side, so any claim about how much faster one plays a specific game should be treated as unproven.
Gaming readers should also note that a maximum refresh rate is a ceiling, not a guarantee. The F9 Ultra is listed at up to 185Hz and the F7 at up to 120Hz. Whether a given app or game runs at those rates depends on what the software supports and what display settings are chosen.
Display
The F9 Ultra’s screen is larger by 0.07 inches on paper and its listed maximum refresh rate is 65Hz higher. The two resolutions differ in width and height, which makes their pixel density close but not identical, so a sharpness claim would go beyond the listed numbers.

Xiaomi’s product page also says its HyperRGB display “delivers visual clarity on par with 2K” while lowering power consumption and extending display lifespan. This is Xiaomi’s claim. The sources available here do not independently verify the comparison.
Battery and charging
The F9 Ultra’s 8,050mAh rating is the larger of the two. Battery life depends on screen settings, the chipset’s power draw under load, and how the phone is used, so rated capacity is only a starting point. A fair comparison needs tested screen-on time under the same conditions, which these sources do not provide.
Cameras
The main difference is the telephoto camera. Xiaomi lists a 50MP 5x telephoto on the F9 Ultra, which gives it a dedicated optical reach the F7 does not offer on paper. The F7 relies on its 50MP main and 8MP ultra-wide cameras. The F9 Ultra’s 200MP main camera has a much higher resolution figure, but high megapixel counts are typically binned in default shooting modes, so image quality should be judged by controlled photo tests rather than sensor specifications.

The defensible statement is this: at launch, the F7 was listed in the UK at £389 for 12GB/256GB, and the F9 Ultra’s listed European MSRP for 16GB/512GB is €1,099. Those are different markets, currencies, storage tiers, and dates. They do not establish a current price difference, and the F9 Ultra’s UK price should be confirmed on Xiaomi’s official regional store before any buying decision.

Xiaomi’s F9 Ultra specification page warns that 5G bands and Wi-Fi capability can vary by region, carrier, and local support. Before buying either phone, confirm:
- The exact regional model and whether it is the global, European, or other regional variant.
- That your carrier supports the 5G bands listed for that variant.
- Whether the seller offers an official warranty for your country.
- The current local price for the same storage tier you are comparing.
Which phone fits which buyer
- Choose the POCO F9 Ultra if you want the newer, higher-tier listed chipset, a larger display with a higher maximum refresh rate, the larger rated battery, and a dedicated 5x telephoto camera, and if its local price is acceptable for the storage tier you need.
- Choose the POCO F7 if its current local price is meaningfully lower, and you are comfortable with its older chipset, smaller battery, and simpler rear camera setup. Its launch prices are historical references, not today’s deals.
- Before deciding, compare the current same-country price at the same storage tier, local stock and warranty, network-band support, and any tested battery and gaming results you can find from independent reviewers.
The available evidence supports a specification comparison and dated price references. It does not include a controlled head-to-head test of performance, battery life, or camera quality, so the F9 Ultra’s advantages should be read as listed advantages until independent testing confirms them.
