Pakistan’s PM Laptop Loan Scheme and the free merit-based student laptop distribution are separate initiatives. The official PMYP-hosted Laptop For All application form lists interest-free laptop financing categories with ceilings of PKR 150,000, PKR 300,000 and PKR 450,000. However, the form does not say whether applications are currently open, and it does not publish repayment schedules or fees. Check the live form and confirm terms with PMYP or the selected bank before applying.
Is the PM Laptop scheme a free laptop or a loan?
There are two distinct strands. Laptop For All is a financing application for purchasing a laptop. Separately, the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme is a merit-based student program that distributes laptops. HUM News reported on August 19, 2025 that the government announced 100,000 free laptops for students and said that distribution was separate from the interest-based loan scheme (HUM News, August 19, 2025).
The official PMYP Education page reports 600,000 laptops distributed overall, including 100,000 distributed in 2023; it lists another 100,000 as allocated in 2024. Allocation is not the same as distribution. These figures describe the student laptop program, not the Laptop For All financing facility (PMYP Education).
What are the Laptop For All loan amounts?
The PMYP-hosted application form, as observed October 5, 2026, lists these category ceilings:

These are financing ceilings, not published laptop specifications, approved models, or confirmation that a particular device can be purchased through the facility. The official form does not identify approved sellers or brands (Laptop For All application form).
Who can apply?
The official form requests personal, contact, household income, education or business, bank selection, and existing financing information. The form extract does not establish the complete eligibility rules or confirm that every applicant in a particular group qualifies.

HUM News’s August 19, 2025 launch report described students, freelancers and young professionals aged 18–35 as eligible groups, noted preference for low-income applicants, and reported that government employees were ineligible (HUM News, August 19, 2025). Treat these as launch-era reported details, not verified current eligibility. Confirm the rules on the live PMYP form or with the selected bank before applying.

- Open the official Laptop For All form and check whether it is accepting submissions. The form’s presence does not establish that applications are open; the reviewed page extract gives no closing date or open/closed status.
- Review the form’s fields and gather the information it requests: CNIC number and issue date, applicant photo and CNIC images, date of birth, contact and address details, income and household expenses, education information or work/business details, bank selection, laptop category, and existing financing details.
- Use the form’s own current instructions to confirm which documents to upload. ProPakistani’s August 19, 2025 report listed CNIC scans, a photograph, income and education evidence, and freelancer profile links among documents; those are reported launch-era requirements, so check the live form for the current list (ProPakistani, August 19, 2025).
- Check that your entries and uploads are accurate before submitting. The application includes the declaration: “I DO HEREBY SOLEMNLY AND SINCERELY DECLARE THAT THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE FORM IS CORRECT.”
- Before committing, ask PMYP or the selected bank to confirm eligibility, whether financing is available, repayment tenure and installment schedule, any fees, and how laptop purchase is handled.
What loan terms and laptop details are confirmed?
A September 2025 PMYP publication describes Laptop for All as enabling freelancers and young entrepreneurs to purchase laptops worth up to Rs 450,000 through government-backed, interest-free loans (PMYP Youth Magazine, September 2025). That dated description does not establish current terms for an individual applicant. The reviewed application form does not state repayment tenure, installment schedule, fees, lender-specific conditions, or a deadline.

The application also does not establish minimum hardware specifications, an approved vendor list, or purchase restrictions. If you are choosing a device, compare its price with the relevant category ceiling, assess performance for your coursework or freelance workload, and check local warranty and service availability. Confirm with the program or bank that the specific device and purchase route qualify before buying; no named model can be described as scheme-approved on the available official information.

Use the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme portal and the Laptop For All application form for current application status and instructions. The PMYP site lists the separate Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme among its application forms. Do not infer that this student distribution application and the Laptop For All financing form share the same eligibility or application status.
