The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is the large-screen version of the Pixel 9 Pro, Google’s premium Pro phone from its 2024 Pixel 9 series. It launched in August 2024 alongside the standard Pixel 9 Pro. Google describes the two as sharing nearly all features. The XL adds a bigger display and a bigger battery, and that is the whole difference Google itself draws between them.
What “Pro XL” means on this phone
On Google’s Pixel 9 line, “Pro” marks the top tier and “XL” marks the larger size within that tier. The Pixel 9 Pro XL is therefore not a separate product category, a foldable, or a tablet. It is one of two sizes of the same Pro phone.
In its August 2024 product article, Google states: “Both Pro phones provide the same experience and capabilities except that the XL model has a larger battery and display.” That sentence is Google’s own characterization, and it is the most useful definition available from the manufacturer.

Because Google says the two phones share the same experience and capabilities, the comparison comes down to the values Google publishes for screen and battery.

Two points deserve care. First, a larger battery number does not by itself prove longer real-world use, because screen size, software and usage all affect runtime. Second, Google’s comparison page does not make claims about comfort or weight preference, so any statement about which size feels better in the hand is a matter of personal choice rather than a published fact.

Display
Google lists the Pixel 9 Pro XL with a 6.8-inch Super Actua display and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The standard Pixel 9 Pro has a 6.3-inch display.

Battery
Google lists 5,060 mAh for the XL and 4,700 mAh for the Pixel 9 Pro. Google also states that the Pro phones can last more than 24 hours, and up to 100 hours with Extreme Battery Saver enabled. These are manufacturer claims, not results from an independent test.

Cameras
Google lists three rear cameras: a 50 MP wide camera, a 48 MP ultrawide camera, and a 48 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. Google describes Super Res Zoom reaching up to 30x for photos. The front camera is 42 MP. The phone’s camera quality has not been independently assessed in the sources behind this article, so treat these figures as hardware specifications rather than verdicts on image quality.

Processor and software support
The phone launched with Google’s Tensor G4 chip. Google says the Pro phones receive up to seven years of security updates and upgraded Android features. Google presents this as a product commitment, and eligibility and terms can vary by market, so check the current support terms for your region before relying on a specific date.
Durability
Google describes the Pixel 9 Pro XL as IP68-rated for resistance to water and dust. IP68 is Google’s published rating; independent durability testing was not part of the sources used here.

Which Pixel 9 Pro XL questions the sources do not settle
The Google materials that describe this phone date from August 2024, and Google has since released newer Pixel phones. The specifications above describe the 2024 model. Before buying, check the current Google Store listing for your country to confirm availability, pricing and support terms, because none of those were verified for this article.
