Pimax announced three products at its October 6, 2026 Pimax Frontier event: the Crystal Pro wireless PC VR headset, Ringless VR Controllers, and Spation mini-PC. The company positions Crystal Pro against Valve’s Steam Frame and Spation against Steam Machine, but they are not like-for-like products. Steam Frame supports standalone games as well as PC streaming; Crystal Pro is presented as a PC VR headset with wireless and wired options. Spation is a compact gaming PC, and Pimax had not announced its price or shipping date.
What Pimax announced
The October 6 announcement covers three products with different roles: a PC VR headset, its controllers, and a compact gaming PC. Pimax’s product details and claims are available in its Frontier announcement; Notebookcheck also reported the launch and competitor framing in its coverage.
Crystal Pro: wireless PC VR with optional 60G AirLink
Pimax lists QLED displays at 2,880 × 2,880 pixels per eye, a 110-degree horizontal field of view, and refresh rates of 72, 90, or 120Hz. The headset includes Mini-LED local dimming with 576 zones per eye and integrated eye tracking. Pimax says the package includes two ringed SLAM controllers, a 16,000mAh external battery pack, and a Wi-Fi adapter.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The headset supports built-in Wi-Fi streaming, and Pimax includes a dedicated Wi-Fi 6E adapter. The optional third-generation 60G AirLink kit is a separate configuration: it uses eye tracking and a 60GHz 2×2 MIMO connection to send the GPU’s native image to the display without video encoding. Pimax claims up to 6Gbps throughput and less than 2ms of added latency; these are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. Pimax also says the 60GHz signal cannot pass through walls, so room layout matters for that connection.
#1 Best Overall
- [Steam VR Compatibility] Optimized for flight and racing sims requiring high-detail graphics. You can play all popular VR games, such as Half-Life: Alyx, Beat Saber, VR Chat.... Especially for Microsoft Flight Simulator and iRacing games and so on.
- [Ultra HD Visuals & Upscaling] 2880×2880 per-eye resolution with 35 PPD for razor-sharp details, even small in-game text. AI upscaling boosts frame rate and clarity for smoother high-FPS gameplay.
- [Immersive Field of View & Night Vision] Large FOV (close to natural human vision) enhances presence in VR. Advanced local dimming for deeper blacks and higher contrast, improving dark-scene details.
- [Lightweight Design & Refresh Rate Options] 30% lighter than Crystal with balanced weight distribution for long sessions. Choose 72Hz/90Hz/120Hz to match your GPU performance.
- [Easy Plug & Play Setup] Easy setup with inside-out(Camera) tracking or expand with Lighthouse(base station) tracking:connect to PC and follow the intuitive Pimax Play software instructions, and complete room setup in 10 minutes.
Other options Pimax describes include Lighthouse tracking, a mixed-reality faceplate, and wired DisplayPort 1.4a use. Those options mean the overall setup can vary; buyers should check which configuration and accessories are included rather than assuming every announced capability comes in the base package.
Ringless VR Controllers
The controllers combine headset-camera hand tracking with infrared LEDs and motion sensors. Pimax says they can function as 6DOF PC VR controllers and clip together to form a wireless gamepad for Windows and Steam. The announcement did not include a price or shipping date.

- VISUALS: 2880 x 2880 per eye resolution and 16.6 million pixels, enjoy the pinnacle of clarity
- SCREEN TECHNOLOGY: QLED display, supporting local dimming and HDR, achieving high contrast and vivid colors

- ULTRA-LOW LATENCY: Up to 120Hz, Experience minimal lag with high refresh rates, providing a fluid and responsive VR environment for immersive simulations
- COMPATIBILITY: Seamlessly integrate with your existing SteamVR setup, including compatibility with controllers like the Valve Index Knuckles or HTC VIVE
Spation: a compact gaming PC
Pimax describes Spation as a mini-PC with desktop-class components. Its stated standard configuration includes 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory and a 1TB NVMe SSD, with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or equivalent processor and either Radeon RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti graphics. Pimax says it supports Windows and SteamOS, and that its Pimax Play client is coming to Linux. The company had not announced Spation’s price or shipping date.
Crystal Pro versus Valve Steam Frame
The comparison is useful as a market-positioning comparison, not proof that the headsets offer the same experience. Valve describes Steam Frame as a full PC running SteamOS: it can stream a Steam library from a PC, laptop, Steam Deck, or Steam Machine, and it can also run standalone verified games. Valve says high-quality PC streaming is its primary design goal. See Valve’s Steam Frame product page and Steamworks overview for those capabilities.

- Unmatched Visual Acuity with 50 PPD: Aspherical lenses deliver 50 Pixels Per Degree, eliminating the screen-door effect for true edge-to-edge sharpness.
- QLED & Mini-LED Display: 3840x3840 per eye with Local Dimming. Combines OLED-level blacks with QLED brightness via Mini-LED technology.
- Expansive 140° Wide Field of View: Break free from tunnel vision,Ultra-wide 140° field of view expands peripheral vision, maximizing situational awareness in simulators.
- Precision Inside-Out Tracking: Flexible tracking, ensures low-latency, responsive motion capture, allowing you to jump into the action instantly.
- High Refresh Rate: Supports up to 90Hz (and beyond), ensuring buttery-smooth gameplay for fast-paced action and racing, for professionals and sim racers demanding absolute precision and immersion.
Crystal Pro, by contrast, is described by Pimax as a PC VR headset. It offers built-in Wi-Fi streaming, optional 60G AirLink, and wired DisplayPort use; the announcement does not establish Steam Frame-style standalone game support. The optional AirLink’s native-image transmission is also distinct from ordinary Wi-Fi streaming, so the headset’s price and connection method depend on the chosen configuration.
Pimax’s own September comparison of its headsets with Steam Frame is a manufacturer’s perspective, not an independent evaluation. It recommends comparing the games a buyer wants to play, tracking setup, PC and network conditions, included equipment, and total system cost. Its discussion is at Pimax’s comparison page.

How to compare the announced products
For a headset decision, compare the complete setup rather than headline specifications alone:
- How games run: Check whether the titles you want are supported and whether they run on the headset or need a separate PC. Steam Frame has standalone verified-game support as well as PC streaming; Pimax presents Crystal Pro as PC VR.
- Connection and room: Distinguish Crystal Pro’s included Wi-Fi streaming from optional 60G AirLink and wired DisplayPort. The 60GHz connection’s line-of-sight limitation may affect where the PC and headset can be used.
- Tracking and accessories: Confirm the tracking method, controllers, battery, and any optional Lighthouse or mixed-reality equipment in the configuration you are considering.
- Whole-system cost: Account for the headset, AirLink or other accessories, and any required gaming PC or network equipment. A headset price alone does not show the cost of a usable PC VR setup.
For Spation versus Steam Machine, the comparison is between compact gaming PCs, not between interchangeable product specifications. Pimax has announced some Spation components, but no price or shipping date; the cited announcement does not provide enough information to establish a direct performance or value comparison. No independent testing in the cited launch coverage establishes a winner.
