The Philips Hue Neon Outdoor Strip Light is a fixed-length, app-controlled outdoor accent light with color effects and a manufacturer-rated output of 1,100 lumens at 6,500 K. Its strongest case is a Hue-connected patio or planting area where color and a more diffused look matter more than maximum brightness. Its main trade-offs are the non-cuttable, non-extendable 16 ft length and a power supply rated only IP20, not IP67 like the strip.
This is a specification-led review, not a hands-on test. The details below distinguish Philips Hue’s listed claims from a small number of subjective customer comments.
What the Hue Neon outdoor strip offers
Philips Hue describes the product as: “Add a playful glow to your outdoor space with the Neon outdoor strip light.” The marketing language aside, the US 16 ft model is a multicolor outdoor strip with Chromasync color blending, scenes and dynamic effects. Hue lists control through its app and voice assistants, plus Bluetooth and Zigbee connectivity. The product page also says it works without Wi-Fi.
Hue’s listed third-party compatibility includes Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, IFTTT, Klikaanklikuit, Matter, Samsung SmartThings and Sonos. These are manufacturer-listed compatibility claims; check current app, operating-system and platform support for your setup. Hue lists a maximum of 12 accessories “with Hue Bridge,” but that does not mean every buyer must have a Bridge for every control option.

Brightness and what the rating means
Philips Hue rates the US 16 ft Neon at 1,100 lm at 6,500 K (Philips Hue, 2026; product specification checked October 4, 2026). That is a manufacturer rating, not a measured result for a particular patio, mounting height or viewing distance. Lumens alone also do not tell you how evenly light will appear along a route or whether the strip will provide enough functional illumination for a space.
Hue lists a nominal lifetime of 25,000 hours and a two-year warranty for the US Neon listing (Philips Hue, 2026). The lifetime is a manufacturer-listed nominal figure, not a guarantee of actual service life.

The clearest manufacturer-stated difference is output: Flux is rated at nearly three times Neon’s lumens at the same listed color temperature. That does not establish that Flux will look three times brighter in a real installation, nor does it settle which strip looks better. A reviewer on Hue’s Neon page described its effects as fun but said it seemed dimmer and more pixelated than an older outdoor strip; the same person noted that light reaches the end and mentioned possible transformer or mounting awkwardness. On Hue’s Flux page, one reviewer preferred Neon’s diffusion and called Flux harsher, with more visible LEDs. These are individual impressions, not controlled optical comparisons or representative evidence.

Outdoor rating, power supply and installation planning
Hue lists the Neon strip as IP67 and the power supply as IP20, while describing the product as suitable for a wet location. These ratings apply to different components: do not assume the power supply shares the strip’s IP67 rating. Plan where the supply will sit and follow the instructions for the exact model when placing and connecting it.
The US listing specifies a 1,500 mm cable length. The 16 ft strip cannot be cut or extended, so measure the intended route and confirm that the fixed length and cable reach work before buying. Account for corners, mounting surface, supply placement and the area you actually want illuminated rather than treating the advertised strip length as usable coverage in every layout.

Regional versions are not electrically interchangeable by assumption. The US 16 ft listing gives 100–130 V; Hue’s separate UK 5 m listing gives 220–240 V. The UK page also says the strip cannot be cut or extended. Check the exact regional product and included power supply rather than transferring voltage or price details between listings.

Price, availability and buying decision
When checked on October 4, 2026, Philips Hue’s US product page listed the 16 ft Neon at $199.99. Hue’s separate UK 5 m page listed £169.99. These are regional listings, with different lengths and mains voltage; prices and stock can change, so check the current local product page and SKU before ordering.

The Neon is a reasonable fit if you want color effects in a Hue-connected outdoor accent-lighting project and its fixed length suits your route. If higher manufacturer-rated output is the priority, compare the US 16 ft Philips Hue Flux outdoor strip, rated at 3,000 lm at 6,500 K. For Neon, check the Philips Hue Neon outdoor strip light 16 ft listing for the current price, availability and exact product details in your market.
Frequently raised installation question: do older Hue outdoor clips fit?
Hue’s reviewed product listing does not establish whether clips from an older outdoor lightstrip fit Neon, and the customer question that prompted this issue does not provide an answer. Do not assume compatibility; check the manual for the exact strip or ask Hue support before reusing clips.
